I'm wondering why nobody has mentioned the Falcon Guide yet.

You will probably be able to make an okay build. A lot will prob say to spend more/save it to make a better one. lol
I'd help but I know little.

To get started here are a few basic advices:
1) Get yourself 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 64 Bit system. Games like BF3 will highly profit from this amount of memory while there is absolutely no use for more. 8 GB of DDR3 RAM are quite cheap at the moment as well.
2) To compare CPU and GPU, refer to this site: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ / http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
Find yourself a decent one with a great Price Perfomance. I would go for Intel I5 2500 and either HD6850 or 560 Ti

Where abouts are you in the UK?
Do you have any parts in your current pc we could Transfer to lower the costs? or is it a laptop?
I won't lie, there isnt much you can do for the limit you have stated, but there are possible ways to do this within budget.

Ok I'm going to assume you have a HDD and Case already. Yes the HDD may not be the best in the world, but it has served you well till now. So keep using it till you can afford to upgrade it. As for the case I going with it been decent size and not one of those useless little cubes.
So with that in mind here you go, Using your current Tower and HDD. We come in at £333.31 for option 1 or £310.46 for option 2 with slightly less powerful GPU.

Both these set ups should allow you to play games like BF3 with at least medium/high settings to high. Not going to be Brilliant, but more than Capable. And there will be some head room for you to upgrade to a better GPU and CPU at a later date for a much needed boost.
this build should get you a 3DMark Vantage score of at least 13000 like this link shows http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3960175
My friend score about 12000 and gets high graphics on BF 3 so this should be fine.

my advice: do what NurEinSpitzname said or go to your local PC shop (not BestBuy or something like that i mean the guys in the little houses that build the PC's themselves) he can probably give you better advice than most ppl here and he can get you the parts for cheap... (thats at least how i upgrade my PC every year....)

don't know about the UK either and i guess it depends on the shop you have but I get all my parts for the same price as everywhere else (and often lower) and you can often get used parts there if your on a really tight budget... also I'd always advise to not rebuy every 2 years but upgrade incrementally...

if you work for a big company ask your IT department, thats what i did

Don't build, just buy. Go to some box mart having a sale on computers and pick something midrange up. Will you be playing the newest games with the graphics set to high? No, but you'll be able to play them, and they won't look terrible. You'll get average graphics, you'll be able to fit your budget, and the average gamer won't run in to any problems for a few years.
Edit: Even better, do what BierLieb said. Pay gunganator to build you one.

Well, in that money you can find something decent(though I don't know what prices you have in the UK). I recommend to look for a second-hand HDD, because new ones are still expensive. Also, what resolution does your monitor have? A 17" one is not that demanding for the graphic card as a 24" one. Here's a list of components that matches your budget: Click

An i5 660 if you can, a midrange nVidia card (just an advantage with games supporting PhysX) like the 560 or, if cheaper, go for 2x a 480 (with the disadvantage of needing better power supply) a decent mainboard (Asus, Asrock, MSI) is needed as well. Not expensive, just a good brand. No Gainward or "low budget" stuff if possible. They just don´t last that long. Then, as said above 8GB Ram and, of course, Windows 7 64bit (you know where you can find those ^^). And don´t buy a crappy power supply, these are one of the reasons most PCs go up in smoke! Really!
That should be about it.
Cost´s too much? Rather wait half a year instead of aiming lower. Sure, BF3 will run with this setting (of course not maxed out in full hd, but a little above medium, some settings even on high) but when aiming lower, it´ll be crap. Not only in BF3 but in all upcoming games. If you start lowend now, you´ll need to rebuild all over again in a year. If you start with the build above, you can change the GPU or just add another one in a year or later if you want to.
Up to you, it´s your money ;)

These guys make some really good value gaming pcs. They will be able to play the latest games not in ultra settings though, if you wanted to play games in top settings then you may need to increase your prices. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Desktops-AllinOnes-/171957/i.html?_ipg=25&_from=&_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ssn=viboxltd
They are really nice computers and vibox are very reliable

First off I would wait a bit and save so money so you can build a very nice one. You are going to need about 500 to do really anything that will separate your computer from the others. Then when you have the money I would go on Newegg and research some of the parts. For your video card I would go NVIDIA and processor Intel but if your tight on money you can go AMD but I'm not a fan. On the topic of brands, ASUS is a very nice brand to get parts from and they are extremely nice to deal with when things go wrong. Other than that you are going to have to research what you want and what parts will be the best to get you what you want.
Edit: Newegg is U.S based so that may cause an issue.

kaname, I build my PC with my dad, most stuff to build it was on discount but my PC is like 2-3 years old, was about 280 pounds ( converted the price ) and I can play BF3 no problem, but not highest resolution, so you will find a perfect build :)

not enougth $500+ is entry level $1000+ is enought $1500+ is extreme anymore than $2500 is overkill

With that budget I would try to get this:
CPU: i3 or something a bit cheaper by AMD if its not fitting budget.
GPU: GTX460(They go for 99 dollars on sale a lot, or you can buy one refurbished for that price usually(Refurbished is perfectly fine)
Ram: 4gb(8 if its like 10-20 bucks more and you can budget it)
Motherboard: Anything will do fine for the most time, look at gigabyte or Asus, they usually are priced decent and are good.
Power Supply: Get something decent by Corsair or another trusted brand(DO NOT CHEAP OUT HERE, IT COULD COST YOU YOUR WHOLE COMPUTER.)
HDD: Get whatever fits your budget here, you can always add more later, Seagate and Western Digital are trusted.
Case: Get whatever is decent and cheap, 2-3 fans at least I would say just because ventilation is important when gaming a lot.
Optical drive(dvd whatever): Don't bother right away if you dont have to, most games are downloadable now, if it doesn't fit in budget get it later on.

Well, I have no idea what are currency rates for pounds but I can build pretty good computer for about 400$. It won't be the best one but you'll be able to run new games smootly on atleast medium settings and you'll be able to upgrade it later. Just look around Google for CPU and Graphics card benchmarks since they are very important things. New Intel Celeron G540 looks pretty powerful from what I can find and it costs around 60$. It's definitely better then Core2Duo or AMD Phenom II X2 565. And from graphics card pretty decent one from low-priced-end is Radeon HD4850. From what I know it still can run every game that comes out. Definitely DDR3 memory needed and some Gigabyte motherboard (I don't like H61 motherboards but I think they aren't as bad as I think). SSD hard drive would be good but it's optional. Although that would make everything run faster and better. One of the new Corsair PSU's and 100mbit network card and a good sound card. Maybe another cooler for CPU and graphics card but you can put in water cooling system too (might even be better). If you know how to search in some internet shops you can get all this for around 400$. Of course - best CPU's and graphics cards will cost more and the better one you'll choose the higher the price will be. But yeah - you can buy something from low-priced-end and then just upgrade it after some while.

I built my own PC for the first time about a year ago. I found this this site very useful.
It has reviews of components, example builds for different price ranges, and the forum is a great place to ask questions and check the parts you're buying are all compatible.

I've been wanting to build one for quite a while now and I've finally got some money to do it! Only thing is I have no idea where to get the parts from in the UK. I'm looking to spend around £250 - £300+ on whatever I need and I want to be able to play the latest games for example Battlefield 3 and all the rest (If i can with that price range). I'm not going to lie, I pretty much know nothing about building a PC as this will be my first one! So yeah... If anyone could recommend anything I'd be very grateful!
Thank you in advance :3
Edit Forgot to add I don't need a monitor as I already have one!
Edit 2 Thank you for all the replies, most of them were pretty helpful and I'm gonna do what most people said and just keep saving until I can buy a pretty beast machine that will last me a while. Thanks for all the replies again :3 Very helpful!
