Should I start with Black Mesa or original Half-Life 1 first?

Half-Life for PS2, done by Gearbox. Beat the game, master the co-op campaign, unlock the playable vortigaunt and enjoy zapping everyone.

Oh, it also had a few improvements over the original PC version of the game. Animated health and armour stations. :D

Playing a first person shooter on PC instead of console would be an even bigger improvement :P

You don't know what you are missing. The PS2 version was ****ing awesome.

Besides, controls are great on PS2. Both with the DualShock 2 controller and the supported USB mouse and keyboard controls (yes, the PS2 does that in a number of games).

Had the PS2 version, the co-op campaign was a blast, loved it. Never knew about the playable vortigaunt.

You need to do A in all the co op campaign levels to unlock a special co-op mission with two of them, and then an A there allows you to use one in the original campaign (or you can use a cheat).

I thought HL on ps2 was hideous. There was a console exclusive expansion with a female doctor too, also hideous.

You are hideous

The PS2 version even gave them fingers. Go look at the Half-Life hands on PC.

Considering you are replaying them, I'd go with Black Mesa, played it on Desura years back and loved it, not sure if the xen levels are available now though.

Black Mesa doesn't really need to be played at all.

I would recommend Black Mesa, but it's not the complete game yet, so go with the original.
