To be more specific,...
When you buy something from HumbleBundle.com, it places a copy of the game in your account. At that point, you may either generate a gift link, or you may show the key.
If you generate a gift link, that link may be given to another person to "claim." Once the link is claimed, the purchase is tied to the account that claimed it. At that point, the Steam key may be generated by the account that claimed the gift.
If you choose to generate a Steam key instead of a gift link, it will show you the key, and the purchase will remain tied to your account. You may tell someone the Steam key, and he or she may redeem it on his or her Steam account, but the purchase and revealed key will remain on the Humble account that revealed it.

If someone claims the gift, then the link is "used" and cannot be reused. Whoever claimed the gift can still choose to give the key information to someone else so that he or she can redeem it on Steam, but HumbleBundle.com will still show the gift and key as belonging to the person who redeemed the gift, and the Steam key will still show on his or her Humble account.
If you have a gift link and want to give it to others, you have to avoid claiming it.

i understand better now.
but what is to stop the other trader (or if he got the gift link from others/previous trades) from scamming by claiming the link, then it becomes used. isnt it better to bind it to yours so that you know the key is secure?
one last question: would claimed gift links appear in https://www.humblebundle.com/home/keys ? because it seems only ones that you buy appear there, although on the claimed link it says it is linked to your account.
thank you.

When it comes to being able to play the game, all that matters is the Steam key. Yes, a guy can give you the Steam key and redeem it before you, but that's true of every Steam key you're given. If you get the gift link, however, then you know he hasn't yet seen the key because you have to claim the gift before you can reveal the key.
Once claimed, I believe the games show up in your library. You may reveal the key at that time.

OK. You can close it with the drop-down menu from the green button in the upper-right corner.

Hi everyone, I just started trading not long ago. Was wondering if I use the 2nd mothod below to trade Humble gift links, will others be able to redeem the key?
1: If I use a Humble link, and it directs me to enter my email, then becomes a used link (cant be access by others anymore).
2: If I did the above and use the Gift link that was sent to my email.
