I was wondering what duration is typical to see being created for a steam key giveaway. 3 days, 7 days or more, or less? I've been making mine 7 days but i don't know if i should shorten the duration of my listings any advice would be appreciated. I usually just post those extra keys from DIG and humble bundle, but I don't think I will get a great many more votes keeping it out longer than necessary.

If some of the games you've given away previously that were unbundled, and now they have been in a bundle, their CV value is worth less hence you'll move down a rank if your CV value isn't enough for that particular level. (I'm pretty sure that's how it works, someone can correct me if I'm wrong)

now that would explain it if the site always checks the prices of games giving away and changes your rank according to current values and not the value at the time of the giveaway

SG uses Steam API to get prices, so if game changes price on Steam (base prace, not things like 75% sale) the Value on SG will change. But what he meant is that games you gave away are Bundle Games (http://www.steamgifts.com/bundle-games) and they give 15% of Value only. Bundle List is managed by a human and as human he cannot be updating it 24/7. Thus if bundle starts or game goes into deep promo he will add it to list later, but all GAs made for the game after bundle/promo/sale started will count as bundle GAs anyway. Thus your level will drop.

Seven days for a public giveaway is fine I'd say. Gives time for people to notice and doesn't run too long. But that's just my opinion, set the duration to whatever you like.

5 votes... ha! :D

Even for utter tripe you'll still end up with hundreds of people if you set it at an hour. It'll end up on the header bit at the top then tons of people will go mad "click, click, click" - even for games without trading cards. -- well that's for public ones @ level 0.

I generally do 1hr also. If not I do it so they will be done after I get up in the am, to make sure I'm around to send the keys right away.

Also, I've never seen a game get let than 100 votes in a hr, maybe at higher levels, but never in the 0-4. That or I'm up at the wrong time lol.

Public giveaways get most entries when they are close to ending 1-2 hours to finish i think. So 7 days a bit high for low level bundle games for me. I usually keep my public giveaways around 1 day or less. But for forum giveaways I tried 4 days and didn't get many entries after 2 days. So this is my observation. You can set it any time you want.

I usually make them 1-3 days. From personal experience, most entries for public giveaways happen in the last day (specially last hours), most entries for a private forum giveaway happened within 2 days, group ones seem to have most on first day but also a considerable amount in the last one.

i starting to lean in the <3 days for me bundle games I just don't think I will see that much more interest setting it out for any length of time.

I'm all about that instant gratification and tend to make mine pretty short. I also like to have low entries so the people that catch it have good odds and short giveaways tend to have fewer entries.

2-4 days is what I usually do - people don't join en masse until the GA is one day from finishing, so the rest of the time is for wishlisters to notice.
Though, now that I think about it, 7 or 8 days makes sure pretty much everyody will see what they are interested in (even if they log in once a week)

I tend to keep mine to 3 days, sometimes I'll do an hour long one for games I don't expect will get many entries.

Usually 1-2 days for public giveaways. They get plenty of attention no matter what, and don't need to be up as long.

Usually 5-7 days for group/whitelist/private giveaways. It takes more time for people to notice them, and in a smaller, more self-selected group, unless a game is AAA and unbundled, many already have them so there are fewer people who will enter. You want to give enough time to make sure you get at least five entries.

SickTeddyBear is pretty accurate.

In one hour, you will only get entries from those who happen to log on, want the game, and have the points to enter.

In one day, you can expect regular users to enter, but only if they have the points to do so.

In three days, you can expect 80% of your intended audience to see your giveaway. More if that includes a weekend.

In seven days, you can expect 95% of your audience to see your giveaway, and they should have the points to enter it.

Anything longer than a week will gain additional entries from people who are not usually around or who have many giveaways to enter. Major giveaway events that involve many giveaways usually have them open for at least three weeks if not four. This is because people will be using up thousands of points.
