i figure to get most out of my backlog of games and my moneys worth that maybe i should try to 100% complete the achievements on my games.

  1. does this make it more fun and worthwhile?
  2. does it help you enjoy a game that is shit?

I suck at games, so i can't go for 100%. I usually aim for the cool achieves or achieve that get me something in game.

Well, it depends really.
Some games (like bullet hell ones) are near impossible to get all the achievements in. Usually achievements add more challenge and variety, but some games don't really do that. And then there are ridiculously long grinding achievements which aren't really that interesting to get.
My best advise is, if it's grinding or you deem it humanly impossible move on to the next achievement/game until you get motivation. Or if you're motivated(such as being real good at the game or just finding it too fun to drop), then go for it. :D

EDIT to go with your edit:

  1. Usually. But I'm an achievement hunter so that's understandable. Depends on the stuff I described above... :P
  2. If a game is shit is personal opinion, so with or without achievements, you either like it or don't like it. Just don't drop it with out at least trying.

If the game is shit I don't complete a single playthrough of it, nevertheless multiple playthroughs to get 100%.

100%ing really only adds value to games I already loved. If Dark Souls wouldn't have had any achievements I would have played it much less than I did - they gave me something to work towards. When the DLC didn't come with achievements I didn't even play it more than a few times because I felt like I had completed it and didn't have any real challenges to complete. Having a few random achievements in games like Banjo-Tooie also keeps me playing those a little longer. Overall, though, I don't 100% a game unless I already loved it.

I like to think I'll get 100%. I always try, but sometimes I just get bored of doing it. :/

Yeah this. And sometimes I just give up at 80% or so after failing to get achievements like "End level on SUPER ULTRA IMPOSSIBLE level in less than 30 sec". But I'm always trying my best unsless the game is really borin'

Very rarely i will go for 100% completion because very rarely it is worth it. Also, having a huge backlog to clear doesnt help :\

I use to but now there's too many games....

And a lot of time it's dumb stuff. "GO AND COLLECT EVERY SINGLE ITEM."

  1. Sometimes it can be but other times it can just be aggravating or a grind. If an achievement is something like "Collect 1 million widgets" where each widget is easy to get then I'm not thrilled with the prospect of doing it.
  2. Definitely not for me.

I find that achievements are best used for encouraging you to try a new playstyle in a game and when done correctly they can breathe new life into a game. Honestly, I would say look at the achievements you don't have and determine if you think it would be fun to go after any particular achievements.

I'm a achievement whore, nevertheless I have only a few games on 100%, because there are almost always a few shitty achievements which aren't any fun. But usually I look to complete most of them ^^

I dont really go for 100% unless the achievements are fun and doable

As some people already mentioned, you must definitely do this to the games you love, because getting all achievements will take many hours of your time, and if you don't enjoy the gameplay, well, it will be hell! But if you like the game, it will make you really enjoy your time. :)

Depends how it's setup and the type of game.
If the game tells you to explore or do a certain play style I consider it, but if it's like a stupid achievement like "Get 1000 kills with just pistol!" chances are not likely.
And this is all if I go for achievements.

depends on how much like the game and if the achievements are ridiculous or not.

I just play the game until I finish it or get sick of it. Any achievements that are reached along the journey are accidental and have no significance to my enjoyment of the game.

If its possible to obtain all achievements then I do, some games have those event only ones that aren't obtainable anymore. I don't bother with those.

It's a matter of perspective. I consider achievements, as little parts the Devs planned for the consumer to go through/ make the most out of the game.

I love achievements; they make some games more challenging and also give you the feeling of having a ‘collection’ of something.

Depends. Lately I have been going for em. Most are fun, like the ones in Bastion where it takes skills and timing. Just Cause 2 achievements are just frustrating because there's just too much time you need to invest. Deus Ex HR achievements were fun cause I enjoyed the game and was planning on playing again anyway. So if the game is fun and unique, go for it. If it's a big time investor, not really.

Good luck with There Can Be Only One in Shogun 2. So in some games, you didn't have 100% achievments without sacriface your life.

Depends on the game, the only two games I think I've gotten 100% are on xbox: Beyond Good and Evil and Castlevania Symphony of the Night. SOTN took forever though. Also some games I'd love to 100% (I was working on dead rising till my brother took his copy back.)
