I'm making a playlist on Spotify of "alternative" Christmas songs. By that I mean songs that have a wintery or Christmassy feel but that aren't the famous ones (think Mariah Carey, Wham!, the Rat Pack). I'm hoping you can suggest some more for me.

Some examples of what is already on the list include:

Tom Waits - Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis

Low - Just Like Christmas

Smith & Burrows - When The Thames Froze

I'll give anything a listen, doesn't matter how old/cheesy/weird it is. Thanks in advance for the suggestions, I'm hoping to discover some great new tracks.

EDIT 1: Thanks for all the responses so far. I will reply to everyone but I want to make sure to listen to your suggestions first ;)

EDIT 2: The list so far, for anyone who's interested, is here. I still have to go through all the links again to see which I missed - everything only got one listen because there were so many. Unfortunately a lot of suggestions weren't on Spotify - I really should have made it a Youtube playlist instead >_>

EDIT 3: Small giveaway to say thanks for all the suggestions!
(Lv1 because I believe everyone can contribute even a bundle game).

I don't think it was posted, so there's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Hankey%27s_Christmas_Classics There's a few original songs on it, notably "Merry Fucking Christmas" and "Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo," both of which are pretty nice Christmas songs. If you have Hulu Plus you can watch the episode.

Thanks for those.

I have to confess, I understand the whole "voice of a generation" thing, but I really don't like Bob Dylan's singing voice. I think he's one of the best songwriters of his generation, but I can only really enjoy his songs when someone else sings them.

The local alternative rock radio station used to put out a Christmas album every year, usually with lots of "comedy" skits between tracks.
I only have two of these physically, but Discogs (linked) is a good place to check the track listings to try to discover if there's any particular songs you might be interested in (good luck finding them though... (edit: nm... just found nearly all of them... 1991-2006... so... they're still out there in digital format (some of them seem to be recordings from the radio show's live "almost acoustic" Christmas concerts, so not studio session quality))).

(Two of the discs listed on that page (Tori Amos and The New Music Revolution) are not Christmas-themed, but the rest are.)

Here's a favorite: Blink-182 - Won't Be Home For Christmas

I quite like this. As someone who only ever bought the first Slipknot album and then moved away from that style of music I was pretty surprised to learn that Corey Taylor actually has a good voice.

South Park! The censored version (with Kenny) is more well-known, but this one deserves the title.

Mr. Hankey - The Most Offensive Song Ever

also, my favorite from the South Park Christmas album:

You know what, that wasn't half bad. I love the Darkness's other Christmas song but my sister had said she didn't rate this one. But it's decent.

I agree, and for some reason I know many people who consider their previous Christmas song "annoying".
I quite liked it, and the video was hilarious. Also the idea of a '70s / early '80s style VHS here is very well realised.

The thing is, The Darkness aren't meant to be taken seriously. They definitely have the musical ability but I've always seen them as a group that's having fun and are quite tongue-in-cheek. But then I found out that some people think they're stuck in the past and over the top and don't like them. How can a group with a song like "Growing On Me" be serious?

100% right, mate!
And it's good to see that they're still doing whatever they like and producing themselves rather than being commercialised by some big name.

And by sheer coincidence I was just listening to Don't Let the Bell's End a minute ago :D

I recommend to listen the band again, the new album and live recordings are much better since the singer changed to Floor Jansen. She can sing higher than the previous one (Anette) so the earlier songs are on the playlist again on the shows ^^
