I never read too many of his books ( dont have access to them in physical form) but generally i just love all things lovecraftian. If it was inspired by Lovecraft i need to check it out.

Thank you for the ride, Radvvan! ^^
That would be Necronomicon because of watching The Evil Dead movies.

I haven't read all his stories (At the Mountains of Madness always makes me fall asleep around halfway), but The Color Out of Space is my favorite.
Most of his stories pale in comparison to The King in Yellow, though. Give that collection a read but keep in mind only half of them are horror stories.

Ah true, I suppose his books do have a mysterious aspect too. You might prefer Stephen King, then. I haven't read his works, but he's got H.P. Lovecraft and Poe in his pedigree.

Well, the thing with Stephen King is that the themes for his book vary a lot. You can get psychological thriller (like Misery or Cujo), straight-up detective fiction (llike Mr. Mercedes series, which I haven't read, because I hate stories about detectives, but my girlfriend said it was amazing) and fantasy/sci-fi stories with grand mistery vibe, like in Lovecraft's works. I've got through some of King's books and honestly it is hard to find the one that suits your taste. Nevertheless, his style is consistant and majority of his stories are enjoyable, with few exeptions, that are either afwul or amazing. You need to read dem back-cover descriptions, because it is very hard to get a great blind date with King.

I'm usually not reading crime/detective books, but since I like most of King's books, I read Mr. Mercedes and enjoyed it, too. Due to the antagonist it has its psycho thriller part in a (sadly) modern way. If your girlfriend owns it, just lend it from her and give it a try.
Haven't read the sequel yet.

The funny thing is, it was I who gave her a full trilogy, as a birthday present ;p I knew she enjoyed the genre, and I didn't, but as a King reader I've heard about it a lot. And I will definitely check this book out in time, but right now I have many of my own lying around, unread. So I'll get to those first ;)

Lovecraft was actually in correspondence with a lot of authors and inspired by even more. There are even some works in the Lovecraft universe written by guest authors (especially August Derleth, whose works are pretty divisive for the fanbase). Chambers' "The King in Yellow" lies on the inspiration side, with Chambers having been born about 30 years before Lovecraft.
If you look for authors inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, you'll find quite an impressive list. There's even a manga artist, Junji Ito, who makes weird and off-putting comics.

Lately I've been enjoying lovely trains that you people had been posting here, so I though I could create my little one for the first time.
Choo-Choo
Also, what is your favourite work of H.P. Lovecraft and why?
