Are Gems a permanent thing now?

I know it said you can still make booster packs with them after the Auction but other than that I didn't see anything about a final usage date or anything. So are gems and turning items into gems a permanent thing now?

I have no option to sell mine...I have "Pack into a sack" or "Create Booster Pack" and I don't have enough to do either

You need to pack them into sacks of gems (1k gems each sack)

That explains it...I guess I need to get more cards from games I don't care about and junk them...if I'd known this in the first place I wouldn't have junked ANYTHING for gems

Yes, it is. Only question is whether gems will be only used for boosters, or some other stuff (for example, Revenge of the Auctions, in your theaters next summer)

It was pretty awful with the gems being exploited. The only good thing were the auctions. Valve handled the events better from previous sales.

Gems were exploited only on first day. Personally I've won 6 games on auctions and paid less than 10k gems for all. None of them went on sale -75% so it was awesome deal.
