I feel so butthurt right now...why not do it at night, when most people are at home and not in class or at work? :(

but still, I feel even more butthurt for buying to the moon last week (the only reassuring thing is that I bought it with money got from selling cards.)

When I saw that, I didn't know if it was from me buying the Starbound Pixel tier (actually did buy it before it came onto Steam) or if it was from Humble X. But there's a part of me that says that it won't be DRM-free since there's multiplayer...

At first I received:
"We sold out of Starbound; unfortunately your purchase was right on the edge. We are scrounging for more keys.

Please let us know if you would like a refund. Please make your email subject "Where is Starbound in HIB10"

but then:

"Hi there,

Thank you for purchasing Humble Indie Bundle X! Your purchase was processed right on the cusp of when we ran out of our 1,000 Starbound keys, but we were able to secure you a copy. Head to your purchase page to find your copy of Starbound, which we've included in this email below"

OH YEAH! THANKS Humble Bundle! And those on the queue, be ready to receive it! :D

and sadly the trade forums have filled with "have starbound, want keys and paypal" :(

Sadly? Why sadly?

Do you read the offers? They range in price from 3-5 keys on ST, most are 4. 4 keys on the market is cheaper than the game on Steam, and there are very few (I count 2) that are offering the version from the Bundle, one of whom is selling his for $5, half the cost he paid. The majority are offering a Steam inventory gift, which are considered more valuable than a key/Humble link and have no bearing here considering the game has never been marked down on Steam itself.

There were literally 1000x (and it seems now a few more) Starbounds on offer from HB. They were gone in less than 2 minutes. Many people had no time to get 1, much less a bunch to trade, and they'd still have had to pay 9.99 each which is hardly a generous markdown. Complaining about traders here is stupid. In actuality, anyone that wants Starbound at this moment that didnt get it on the HB would save at least a little money getting it from a trader.

Traders making profit off charity this was is just not cool, paying $10 for a bundle of games then asking for $13 for one of them.
And calm down before you hurt yourself. jeez

Comment has been collapsed.

Really? Taking "calm down" shots when something is explained to you? lol

Again, there were very few traders trading keys of Starbound when you made this nonsense post. I counted 2 in 3 pages on ST. Get a clue. 95% of the Starbounds for trade are gift copies There were only 1000 Starbound HB keys to go around and they were gone within two minutes. This "sin" that you seem to take such a stand against was minimal in scope. The bundle games are worth squat on the trading market alone. The "profit" you speak of is negligent and the charity still received their money when the purchase was made. Enough of the self-righteous clueless crap.

For me,it's awesome bundle. Have none of the current games and want all of them except Papo & Yo. I hope they'll add some nice stuff next week, but will BTA anyway.

I have all of them except To the Moon, also had 2 copies of Runner2 and 1 copy of Papo & Yo that I was trading. :S

Humble Bundle just ruins my trading business with each new bundle at this point.

Also I had no idea they gave away Starbound to early buyers, was it only for the BTA buyers or for the $1 tier as well?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It had a special tier for 9.99$ (fixed price) with 1000 copies only. Thats why the average price is still a bit higher than usual.

As for games that will be added next week, first Joe Danger and Runner are pretty solid candidates.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The “all time” average of all (nine) previous Humble INDIE bundles is $6,75. and this one is cheaper than that. So the higher cost (to bta) really only applied to early custumers.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes that was the BTA price at the end, but I bought most of BTA bundles for 3.50$ max about 10 minutes after the start of the bundle. This time those 1000 bundles for 9.99$ minimum bumped the price up at the very beginning.

I think it's a great bundle, but it's not particularly worthy of the hype it received. I still think that the all time best main HIB was HIB V. With all this hype I was expecting it to be at least at that level if not better, but oh well. It's still fantastic, but it's more on par with the HIB 8 and the HIB 9 (which were still both pretty sweet).

What? The new system from bonuses games was added months ago. It's not a new system, and personally I don't mind it at all. You still normally get a handful of games for a dollar. What’s disappointing is the low averages of most game bundles :/

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How are low averages disappointing? What's disappointing is when averages never go below $7-$9. I refuse to pay that much on a bundle.

As far as I am aware, you can pay $1,000,000 dollars if you so choose. A low "average" does nothing to prevent people from donating what they want to donate.

So far there's only been 5 humble bundles (gaming) that didn't go below $7 (one of the was the Botanicula debut bundle, and I see you use the cover art as an avatar so I assume you like the game and maybe other games from Amanita) - to put that in perspective, the other media bundles they have had (comedy, music, ebook) has never been below 8.37!)

Why is he low average on gaming bundles a problem? Because the low averages is starting to make a lot of developers and publishers (even indie developers) really reluctant to include their games in bundles, because at the end of the day they're not making that much money from the bundles as they used to do when the averages was higher.

As an example if a bundle sales for 1 million dollars and there's 6 developers in it (pretty much like the current one) and if the default split is used then each of the devs will get $108,333.34. That's before taxes and fees and whatnots.

Is that amount bad? Well no, I think everyone here on SG would love to get 108k for two weeks of "work" - even if it's before taxes. But the problem with participating in bundles is that it also makes a lot of people reluctant to buy games at their retail price (or even below 50 % off) making it harder for the developers to make money once their game has been in a high selling bundle.

And that's the problem for the devs, because making games is expensive and takes a lot of time. So if we want to see good bundles in the future, if we want developers to participate in bundles and maybe even stay indie then we need to actually pay for the content we enjoy.
I mean, you can almost get any Humble bundle/sale for less than what a pizza costs (or insert any preferred fast food), a few cans of soda/beer, a cup or two of coffee ad still people are complain about the bundles for being too expensive - and many of the buyers claims to like games!

Oh and just to point out, most developers and publishers are looking at the average price and comments on public places rather than the total amount of purchases of a bundle. For some that sells dlcs or want to push out a game that will soon have a sequel low averages might be "ok".

Humble bundle and other bundle sites are working together with the developers and publishers to find ways to make the averages go up, so that bundles can be attractive to participate in and to give us gamers a awesome way at getting games and supporting developers.. But so far the averages are pretty much the same as they have been for gaming bundles - $3-5 dollars and that is not something that will work in long run.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Developers or publishers may be upset that bundle average is cheap, but that's the state of the industry atm. Most sales happen during sale events on steam or bundles. Few people buy games full price anymore, especially since most people are strapped for cash these days. Course you can depend on the rich buying your games, but building an entire market on a small section of people is setting yourself up for a worse crash than the one 2 decades or so ago.

This bundle's a little on the lame side, I was expecting more out of HiB, to get epic games like Evoland, The Bridge, Don't Starve, Contrast. What did we get? 2 repeats in the $1 tier (To the Moon, Papo & Yo), 2 games that could be interesting but certainly aren't epic (Joe Danger 2: The Movie and Reus), and one that looks like it's so bad you can't even call it a game and I'd only accept it if someone paid me to take it off their hands (Surgeon Sim 2014).

I think it's a good bundle, but it wasn't worthy of all that X hype. I had forgotten that TTM was in a bundle already, but you're right, it was in an Indie Royale. The Bridge would have been sweet. As I said in my earlier post, the best main bundle was the fifth one, and I was expecting one of at least that level. It's certainly not bad, but a little underwhelming all things considered.

I don't see myself getting this bundle, even if they put Starbound back in. I have the current to BtA games and I have To The Moon. Only game that really catches my interest in the bundle is Papo y Yo and I can just wait for a sale on Steam if need be.

There was obviously a different method they could have used for adding Starbound. Considering the large amount of people who buy the HB and many of which are in different time zones and such, the method they used was kinda crappy.

But yeah, if people want Starbound just buy the bloody thing.

well man i believe that even if steam puts papo and yo on sale it won't cost $1 alone. so with $1 you get 4 games in HIBX. you can keep the one you want and trade the others later for something you don't want.
but you can also wait till next week to see the new games unlocked if worth it or not :P

Before this indie bundle was announced i was expecting something similar more of a e.g. WB bundle. This one is quite descent, and my guess is that in the new games added next tuesday there will be some joe danger 1 or bit trip runner 1 (or something else) or even some repeats from previous bundles like bastion, super meat boy etc.
