Hi there, i know that there are a lot (and a lot) of Fallout 3 vs. New Vegas discussions, but mine is a quite different.

I actually bought both games in this sales (i know i know i am a bitch consumer), but my question is which one i have to play first?

I know that New Vegas have a tons of mods (and bugs) but maybe starting with the earliest from the both will be the right choice, but i hear opinions.

I love the FO2, and 1, not so much tactics, but i consider New Vegas an improvement in every way.

You arent the same character and its basically the same engine so do them in whatever order you like.

It doesn't matter which order. They both have a lot of mods you need. Start with Fallout 3 though, just because it came out first. I think you should be able to appreciate them both more if you play them in the order they were released. With that being said, in my opinion Fallout 3 is a higher quality and more rich experience. Mostly because of the map design, exploration, atmosphere (modded of course), DLC, etc. New Vegas did make some improvements in other areas. Make sure you get a nice ENB preset for both of them, if your system can handle it. This is the one I used for Fallout 3: Click here

ENB is some kind of Enhanced Something Something. It basically messes with graphical settings you can't normally access and turns up the graphics to absurd, beautiful levels. Provided your computer can handle it, that is. There are lots of settings/packs for various levels of shader, lighting and so forth. Much of it is down to personal taste as much as what your computer can handle.

Thanks, so for example in a game like F3 or FNV (a bit old) it will make them so ridiculous that a nvidia G540mobile or an ati HD7770 can't handle it?

Sharpshooter's realistic ENB with 2k high-resolution ultra textures?

Yep, no issues.

Kinda hard for me to believe in that, but okay, good for you if it's true. Unless you're playing on ultra low rez, since i'm playing on 1080P and I need 60 FPS, if you have that with 470, then just wtf.

First, the original one. (original as in first fps fallout)

Look at my profile if you're not convinced.

there are a lot of mods for FO3 that implement some of the gameplay improvements from New Vegas, since the NV ones were inspired by mods, like beeing able to see trough the weapons sights.

Afther playing New vegas all the problems with FO3 will become more apparent, so i will say Fall Out 3. beat trough the story, and move to New Vegas.

i heard fallout 3 has the better story, but new vegas has the better gameplay....although i was caught with a bug that at the time there was no fix for as far as i could find, which caused me to stop playin it, don't know about now

I think you should start with Fallout 3, because in new vegas, you are thrown into the wasteland asap, but in Fallout 3, they make it sounds amazing, a forbidden unknown world dangerous to all and there is a build up before you can explore the wasteland. so If you go NV then fallout 3, you will probably say "ughh wasteland, been there, done that".

I would play FO3 first to get yourself into the story a bit since its a bit better might get you excited to play NV cuz NV seems to be lacking in that departement, gameplay is pretty awesome on both though, so I guess it wouldnt matter that much

fallout 3 is indicated to learn the basics and to continue the story in fallout NV

Plot wise, it doesn't matter, they're not in "order" and those are different stories.

Gameplay and narrative wise, mind that New Vegas is way, way, way better in every aspect (except graphics). I'd honestly suggest that you start with F3 because if you play NV first, you're in for a huge disappointment.

Doesnt matter. At all. If you are just interested in which one to play first then just flip a coin. I played both and I likes New Vegas more, but Fallout 3 was very good too.

Hey there! If you are fallout fan - play NV first. If not - F3.
Both games are great (I personally prefer NV), but F3 is not actually a Fallout but like some spin-off, I guess. It had some serious FO setting issues and some other things FO fans can't stand. But it's OK. So if you are FO fan, you'd be disappointed and wouldn't even want to try NV after FO3, but after NV it's just like other game that isn't bad at all. Kinda like that, I guess.

3 doesn't really have setting issues, just tone issues. It's like they forgot the tongue in cheek humor that was supposed to be in the first half and then crammed in a bunch of totally over the top stuff in the second half and the DLC to make up for it.

I played more hours of 3, though, because 3 felt like a consistent experience and New Vegas felt more like a bunch of waiting for the next good part. They're both very good games, but you're going to end up with a definite preference for one or the other.

Fallout 3 has way more bugs than New Vegas and is somewhat close to unplayable on newer OS's. In fact actually it pretty much is unplayable using Windows 8.

I'll support "Fallout 3 first" opinion:

  1. The games's storylines don't cross, so this doesn't matter/
  2. Both games could be hang with mods like a cristmas tree, so see 1.
  3. New Vegas is much better in my opinion, so playing this first could make you not to take an advantage from posessing F3, just cause you won't play the last with joy. This matters.
So i advise F3 first. Never changes...
