MB = Megabytes Mb = Megabits.

So I'm roughly at 28 ~ 32 Mb/s which equals about 3.5MB/s to 4MB/s.

Depends : on Steam, I can get up to 2.0 MB/s but average is more like 600 KB/s. But on Origin, download speed starts at 1.5 MB/s and keeps decreasing to 300 KB/s and then stabilizes. It's low, I know.

46Mbps = 5.75MB/s, yet Steam never goes above 2.5MB/s for me.

Fun fact: Mb is different than MB. The former (Mb) is Megabit, the latter is Megabyte. 1 byte = 8 bits (corrected).

Most providers will speak in megabits to throw you off (so that you'll think "wow, 100 Mb is awesome!" when it's "only" 12.5 Megabytes). Hopefully Google can do the conversion for you, just type in "X Megabits in Megabytes" (or any unit) and you'll have the real numbers. I mean, this is important since your OS works in Bytes, not bits.

It goes even deeper though! You also have MiB, which are apparently the "true" Megabytes. 1024 kB=1 MiB! Most brands will tell you their external hard-drive has 1.5 TB(terabyte) of space, and when you plug it in it's actually 1.3 TB. This isn't wrong however; namely 1000 kilobytes=1 Megabyte.

Also changed "m" to "M". Honestly though if you're reading this and can learn anything from it, you don't need to know that ;)

It's MB and Mb. M is Mega, m is mili.
Also, MiB is MebiByte, not ""true" Megabytes". A true Kilo/Mega/GigaByte is x1000. KiB/MiB/GiB is x1024.

Also also, converting bits into Bytes is easy. There's 8 bits in 1 Byte, so divide bits by 8 and you get your Bytes.

Yeah, I ran into troubles in my own head when trying to explain mebibytes. Computer illiterate people normally (that's part of being computer illiterate) think 1000 kilobyte is a megabyte. On the other hand, Windows works in KB/MB/GB and it's maddening to be told my 1.5 TB external hard-drive is only 1.3 TB to Windows (yes I use Windows). This is a huge difference, since it's almost full and I could use the space. And one can easily deduce Windows uses said Mebibytes, just like any other software (thus the "true" part). I mean, I've only seen commercial brands rounding my 1024 to 1000.

Still corrected the rest. For some reason I always think 16 bits make the byte. Huh. Also corrected the m/M part, but, well, read the note ;) (do milibytes exist though in the sense that there's a need for them?).

No such thing as milibytes, lol.

No, no such thing as a millibyte (byte = 8 bits) and the smallest measure in computing (AFAIK!) is 1 bit.

It's a bit sad how the Xibi prefix was created as a reaction to computer illiterate people not understanding the whole 1000/1024 thing, and now it just server to confuse the very same people even more.

Oh, and of course it's also a good marketing tool. More different terms and meanings = more ways to trick the consumer into thinking you offer more than you really do.

Connection speed is actually measured in bits/second though. That's not some kind of marketing ploy.

Well, I like to have a single unit for everything. I know I download at a speed of 3.5 MB/s and if I were to download a 6 GB game, I'd know right away how long it would take me (also considering 1 MB=1000 KB for both the game, my internet speed, and the space my hard drive would require)). Going through the process of multiplying by 8 has become unnecessary.
