What is the best joystick/Controller thingy for the Steam Games?

I'd say hold off on purchasing a gamepad till 1pm today.

I've got this one. Works like charm.

I would say get the XBOX 360 Controller for Steam Play. There are a couple of reasons:

1. A lot of games support is trivially. You do not have to do any key mapping or any extra driver downloads.
2. If you know someone who works for Microsoft, they can get you employee discount. This way a wired controller will be just $10 and wireless will be $15.
3. I am not a fan of XBOX (love ps3 and their exclusive games) but I have to say their controller is very good on hands. After long continuous playing hours, your hands still won't hurt with Xbox controller

360 controller is the best as it has the most all around support and it has much better quality than a lot of 3rd party gamepads.
2nd would probably be a logitech dualshock controller. Good quality, good compatibility.
3rd would be a PS3 controller. Best quality controller, but fails for not being natively PC compatible and requiring 3rd party workarounds to make it work with a lot of games.

The wired 360 controller will work plug and play on a PC. But if you have a wireless 360 controller from your xbox and no wireless receiver for the PC, you can't get it to work, as they no longer sell the wireless receiver by itself and the 3rd party receivers are trash. If you want wireless, you have to buy the wireless 360 controller that comes with the wireless receiver.

360 wireless is great all around except that you can't be a little too rough with the controller or it will disconnect because the battery casing has moved. Soon you'll need to improvise by adding duct tape to it or putting a little piece of paper behind the metal contact point to fix things.

Wireless Xbox360 is the best, the people who said wired is better is just because they don't have the wireless thing to play but is just like play in a 360 so... wireless always ^^

Ugh... Just get a Xbox 360 Controller and plug it into your PC.
I got a Logitech F320 or something like that, it's great for kinda top-down and SOME sidescrolling things, however it's a little difficult to set up for most things and I guess it works alright for FPS, but I'm not a fan of controllers for those anyway.

Logitech F710 or an XBOX 360 wireless controller with the receiver connected to the PC.

Playstation 1/2/3 + converter (for 1/2) + MotionJoy

360 wired controller works perfectly fine but maybe you should wait for Steam Controller

I have a wired PS3 (custom) controller, using DS3 tool to make it work perfectly with steam games (for you who don't know, it's just a program that makes the PS3 controller input become XBOX360, or rather, the game thinks it is, all you need to do is start the program and press a button, voila). Works perfectly, and it was cheaper than the xbox 360 controllers.

Depends on what you're playing. For most things I'd use a 360 controller (and do), but if you need a dpad, the 360's is awful and I'd go for a PS3 controller, despite the extra effort it takes to set it up.

EDIT: Also, the wired 360 controller has no battery pack and is therefore lighter. It's really not super noticeable though. However you need a special part to connect your wireless 360 controller to your PC, so you're best and cheapest solution is to get the wired one anyway.

gamecube controller or N64 controler with the right convertor from the respectivly one to usb i have one and i play my backups and steam games{Well i am a little Nintendo boy but think about it}

Using the Logitech F510. Never a fan of the wireless kind, so didnt get the F710 sister model. Plus as already mentioned, Logitech Warranty is superb. On everything that i've owned from them so far they have been giving full money back or replacement even 6 years after the original buy. Superb service if you ask me.

For steam games, probably 360 controller. Most indie games seem to support it more than any other controller. I have a logitech dual action controller and it doesn't work right with a lot of games.

for mortal kombat and all other fighting games i recommend a fight stick or fight pad if you want a cheaper option.

Logitech F310. 360 compatible, PS3 layout. Works great!

I was just trying to decide between the Xbox 360 wired controller and the Logitech F310... I think I'll get the Xbox one.
