At least you get to pay in your local currency. Australians have to pay with US dollars on Steam even though our dollar is only worth US$0.75; in between the value of the local dollars in New Zealand and Canada, where they pay $16.91 in their local currencies. We pay approximately $22.30 plus currency conversion charges in our local currency.

Yeah, I'm hoping that it will happen now that the High Court of Australia has dismissed (on 20 April) Valve's final avenue of appeal against the ruling penalizing them for breaching Australian Consumer Law regarding refunds. The initial case was filed in August 2014, and offering Aussie dollar transactions on the Steam Store wouldn't have done Valve's defence case many favours because it hinged on their claim that they didn't conduct business in Australia (which the judge did not accept), so they didn't need to comply with Australian Consumer Law.

Yeah, the judge in the Federal Court case (the one before the High Court) also pointed out that Valve spent over $1m buying and maintaining property and servers in Australia, entered into third-party agreements with multiple Australian businesses and serves a couple of million subscribers here. It was a pretty flimsy argument but it would have been even more flimsy if we could pay with Aussie dollars.

I'm not sure why this action by the court in Australia would induce Valve to convert to local currencies faster.
That being said, if Valve chose to ignore this court order, how would they intend on enforcing this breach?
Does Valve have an Australian office I'm unaware of? The servers -- certainly they are paying something like AWS for this bandwidth and storage, no?
If someone is playing from the DRC, and the DRC has some law on the books that anyone selling digital entertainment products online must pay the DRC 50% of proceeds, do you believe this would force Valve's hand into paying some onerous tax?
ed: Why do you feel that currency valuation is the most important influence in the regional pricing? Should games in Japan cost less than in Russia?

Are games in Israel cheaper than they were prior to the ILS being used? I suspect not. It's not hard to see why, when one looks at the Israeli taxes that are now involved.
ed2: Israel (see: "Use and Enjoyment", laugh), Australia, EU & UK while it is in EU, Albania, Turkey (soon, probably) -- bad news here in regard to e-commerce taxes and VAT.
