Is it possible in anyway to gift/trade games that are in my steam library?
I have many unwanted games.

Why is it sad?

You've only purchased a license to play the game, not to sell it when you're done.

That's the way it works now though. :(

I've recently seen that some companies are trying to make it so you can't resell your physical copies of games you bought as well.

That makes absolutely no sense... You pirate games because you're not allowed to resell digital copies?? >_>

This thread is really sad.

Steam would be a complete mess if you could sell games off your account. You just need to sit down and think about it for 1 minute in order to understand why.

Unlimited free games 4ever?

If you could resell games, then Steam would have the same resale issues of the console market.

If a publisher expects a game to be played five times in its lifetime, they have to charge five times as much.

Not if you were to trade in the game for store-credit on Steam. That way it'll be played once and paid for once.

Nope, by a long way the worst thing about Steam.

If you could, it would be so easy..just play the game and sell it on.
I don't like the license thing all that much, but some games you might not be able to get otherwise (some Indie games), I think.

I bet it would only take changing of one variable or the click of one button to make it possible, since it already works perfectly fine with gifts and guest passes, as well as in-game items.

The thing is, reselling games does not make any profit for the publishers, so they would never ever allow it.
Also, since reselling wouldn't make profit for Valve either, they wouldn't like to have it either, even if the publishers would allow it.

Reselling is the only profit why every publisher has their own DRM system in place (Origin, UPlay, GFWL,...).
This completely inhibits any resales and basically makes retail copies a piece of plastic in a box.

This is not a general truth. GMG has a trade-in for credit functionality, you're kind of reselling it back to them

maybe that's all people want on steam? to sell the game back to them

The used game market is bad for gaming (almost as bad as piracy), but selling your game back to the manufacturer for store credit bad (it'll hurt valve a little in this case, but they'd probably gain respect from customers)

i wouldnt mind if it got introduced, although alot of people value having alot of games in their library for some reason. selling back games that came from some key wouldnt work, but only those you got directly from them. but seeing how strong they are doing in sales, its not likely to get implemented.

You would never be able to resell the games because you don't actually own them.

Well, technically speaking, you can resell the license you bought, as you do own that. So, for all purposes, yes you would.

Easy.

  1. Sell the games on the Steam Marketplace. Steam gets a cut and can also give a cut to the publisher/developer. Doesn't have to be the same amount as for in-game items.

  2. Trade the game back to Steam for a lower amount of in-store credit. You'll use that money to purchase new games on the Steam Store which means both publishers (perhaps not the same publisher as you might buy a game from another, but that goes the same for everyone else - someone else will buy a game from "your" publisher) and Steam makes money.

Besides, it's legal to re-sell licenses in Europe, although that doesn't mean it's possible (it's currently not on Steam). It's possible that it'll be implemented into Steam eventually.

Let's hope the European Union enforces that law, and publishers actually abide to it for a fear of alienating a huge market.

BossaruCS, please never use the tool to search for topics on forum! It sucks!

And that question should grant you 2 oscars, 1 nobel prize and maybe the player of the year!

So you have too much money and you're buying things you don't need? Why don't you give that money to homeless people. At least they'll be happy and will spend every cent with care.

Dude, I don't know about the homeless people where you live, but hand a homeless guy around here a couple bucks and they're off to the liquor store, or worse, their dealer.

You can remove subscription of these unwanted games in steam support and they'll remove those games from invertory

The best solution I can think of to this, if you can even call it a problem, is to offer maybe 25% of the price of the game back to you, so you can spend it on another game. Unless it came from a bundle or something. In which case, fuck you, you're keeping it.

I don't care either way though. I rarely pay full price for a game. Even Skyrim at launch only cost me £23, thanks to Asda.
