My friend just bought AC3 on Uplay, and so he said its cheaper than on Steam.

So, Convince me! Why i should pick AC3 Uplay version than Steam, or vice versa.

well if you use steam, it will goes through Uplay, I had AC Brotherhood & Revelation and Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Future Solider. It still no difference. Similar to Game for Windows.

When you say that it is similar to GFWL does that mean that it is not so great?

it's not so great cause it looks like fetus of their digital store, give em more time

Well, I personally have nothing against GFWL and had no issues with it but GFWL/UPlay/Origin are missing a lot of features(UPlay doesn't even have minimize to tray options and Origin has an issue that doesn't allow you to set a default games folder other than X:\Origin\something) , the in-game options suck (UPlay Skype integration doesn't actually work) and they all look like hell. Using any of these along with Steam is annoying as hell, even if it doesn't cause any problems.

I've had problems with games for windows live. Since I don't live in an area with good internet each time I lost the connection GFWL told me to restart at the last checkpoint. On Bioshock 2. During the single player.

Get it on w/e platform you want. I prefer steam and as so buy 99% of my games from steam. If a game requires additional DRM such as From Dust needing Uplay, I either pass or get a crack.

Don't buy Uplay games on Steam (only if you are a Steam-fanboy, can't buy them somewhere else or they are on sale), you should buy them on Uplay. The worst thing you can do is to buy a direct download.

You re not the first asking this here.

If you buy it on UPlay well, you'll play it through UPlay.

If you buy it on Steam you will have 2 sets of identical achievements, 2 overlays, 2 logins etc. since UPlay games on Steam act exactly like GFWL games on Steam.
So it will be something like THIS

Also, it seams that if you buy it on Steam, the game will not show in UPlay desktop client. You will only see the overlay from Steam.

I guess you can buy it on any platform you like. I prefer retail but if I must take it digitally, I prefer to have all games from a series on the same platform. (ME 1+2+3 on Origin & AC all on Steam).

But if money is not a problem I suggest you go with Steam. This way you can get Steam promos for the game, when they sow up, and also UPlay promos for the same game, since the game uses UPlay.

It's cheaper on Steam, the price on Uplay is 50 euro.

But GreenManGaming had 25% discount on that game =P

They seem to tossing a 10 USD discount for reffing friends or some such. Couple of weeks steam will have its winter sale and AC3 will prob be cheaper then uplay if only by like 2.5.

I hope you (and your friend) dont intend to re-download the game after more than 30 days then. Ubisofts only offers a free download service for the first 30 days after your purchase. :P (Unless they´ve changed this, havent used Uplay for awhile)

If you buy it from the in-client store you will be able to download it as often & as long as you want. Only if you buy from the website, you will get those 30-day links.

I don't get it.

So if I buy from UPlay client I have unlimited download if not, I only have 30 days limited links.
What about after that?
I mean, the game appears in UPlay client. Isn't there a option like Download & Install or something?

I only have 1 game on UPlay and that's a retail release so I don't really know.
What I know is that I tries a few weeks to figure it out how to redeem a gifted AC2 key on UPlay and I gave up :))

You have to differ:
a) Uplay: the client itself has a shop in it. If you use this shop, it will be activated and Uplay will start the game. You have unlimited activations, under "My games" you can hit download/install or play
b) If you buy from any Website, even Steam, your game itself starts Uplay, BUT your game will not be added to your libary there.
That means: you lost your retrail/download/installation for some reason => you can't start it. It's like it was in the good old time: if you don't have the CD anymore, you can't install the game.
Also: there is no way to reddem a key on Uplay (at least I don't know any). Your key should have come with the game, which you have to install.

a) this I know

b) I also know that buying it on Steam won't add it to UPlay client. However, doesn't the game download via Steam in this case?
And if I buy a retail edition, the game appears in UPlay client only when it is installed? If I uninstall the game this means I won't be seeing it in the client anymore? Because right now my retail game is in My Games list. And I never uninstalled it before.
Moreover, this thing is available for Ubi Shop as well? I mean UPlay website, not UPlay the in-client show.

As for that key, I had it from someone who got it as a bonus for pre ordering AC3 on UPlay and he already had UPlay. And I asked for a download link and he said he didn't receive one.
And yeah, no way to redeem the code from UPlay.
I tried contacting support to ask for help and they said I have to first install the game and the key will be asked after installation, on first run.
And when I told them I don't have the installation media/link they told me to buy a valid license key.
I told them I have one and they said I should use it to get the game :|
That's when I gave up.

If I start Uplay (C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launcher/uplay.exe), I can only see the games from the client. If I start Driver SF on Steam, I can only see Driver SF in Uplay.
Of course Steam loads the game. But a CD loads the game, too. ;)
If you lose you Steam account or your CD you can't install it anymore. (Which is exactly the problem with your key! You don't have the CD/download (because you never got one) anymore) For your case: try support again, until you find someone who has enough brain to understand your problem. Also: you could ask a friend with the game to burn you the CD. Or you just use the internet to get a CD-download, which is - depending on your country - legal.

Suggests buying from a inferior service that runs on the same principle as steam.

Steam doesn't get you away from Uplay. Steam launches Uplay, which then launches the game.

I'm playing Brotherhood from UPlay using the adding non-Steam games to your game library function provided by Steam client and I can't see any difference than a Steam game: you have the game in your game library, the steam overlay while playing, screenshots...

The Steam version just launches the Uplay version, you don't lack any of the Uplay achievements or rewards.

After read above post, This is what i get, Why choose AC3 on Uplay over Steam:
-one less drm, since we play trough it anyway
-no steam achievement so why bother, it's on uplay
-cheaper price, currently for me

But, i prefer Steam myself. Reason? lol i don't know, i just like Steam :P

Well, i can wait for winter sale though since i'm not in hurry....Oh wait, it's Dec 2012, the end is nigh. need to follow Connor's life to find a clue to stop it! :P

Gaben appears to be one of the richest chairmans of gaming, f**king billionaire, but his Client is good of course!
But if it needs Uplay thing, its better to buy from the source :)

P.S:
And you if u like steam anyway u can add as non-steam, so its cool!
