People do it all the time, they either trade game keys for keys or sell them at third-party websites like G2A or worse yet organize a giveaway which gets revoked later on. Publishers and developers of low-budget games are sometimes nasty little dicks that like to get a free review by giving games for free, then later on revoking them.
As far as I know game will get revoked if:
1) Game publisher or developer revokes the key(s) he has got from the Steam Admin panel.
2) Payment method will be canceled e.g. through the PayPal (card stolen or just claimed that someone else used it, so the user will get refunded and seller will cancel the key)
3) Cancel Steam payment and get banned on Steam unless you come up with a damn good explanation.

Well just out of interest I contacted the developer of Rochard just to ask the exact reason for the revocation of the keys. They have responded saying it is a key from Humble Bundle and HB have deactivated a bunch of keys that people bought from HB, sold on G2A and have since chargedback.
Comment has been collapsed.
Good idea and detective work contacting the developer of Rochard but where does it leave the customer? Obviously we can contact G2A and request a refund but it's messy to say the least. Why should the customer go chasing after a legit purchase? From the sheer amount of people with revokes on here it's a cause for concern and I think developers need to give a half decent explanation upfront.
Comment has been collapsed.
The developer did not sold you the game on G2A.
The developer sold his game through HB to someone, who sold you the game on G2A.
It turns out that someone did not really paid for the game to HB because their payment was cancelled, therefore HB revoked the key.

I don't think downloading and playing games using bittorrent is the answer as many games are worth buying and supporting - if everyone was to copy and use illegal software we wouldn't have an industry. It's more the whole you buy something in good faith and it can be taken off you at anytime with explanation that bugs me. I like steam and I like the overall way everything is done but this whole buy something and get it revoked without explanation has left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm not going to support or buy so easily in the future unless everything adds up for me.

Today i got the original Red Faction revoked too originally bought in Nov 2015, probably for the same reasons... shame is that I'm not able to buy it through Steam directly due to region restrictions to avoid stuff like that.
Well, it's always a gamble buying things from third parties, seems that I wasn't that lucky this time :|... gl to you and your refund efforts, I hope you get at least your money back.
Comment has been collapsed.
Will see if I get a refund off G2A but am not so bothered as I got the game cheap enough 8 months off them anyway! As long as it's not a recurring issue then I can deal with it. However, I didn't realise till now just how many people had games revoked so it's something to keep an eye out for in the future.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, makes me think about all the other games purchased through third parties and think twice about investing larger sums than a few bucks... just didn't expect something like that after such a long time. Seems like Valve is fed up with people profiting over their stuff without including them and all the legal troubles that could follow, hehe...
Comment has been collapsed.
I think alot of people including myself have learned a fair deal considering just how easy it is for their games to get revoked on here. At least it seems to be that people have lost a very small percentage of games from their library which is something. Of course the problem wouldn't exist if Valve didn't charge so much for the same game at times - not everyone can hold out on their sales!!

Jerry Mcpartlin - Rebel With a Cause. Keys for this game have been made obsolete. The game was up during the summer sale and was even in an indiegala bundle. After the summer sale, they took it down, and it is no longer available on steam. on steam and all of the keys have been made invalid and you can't activate them.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't know that Jerry Mcpartin was taken down and no longer available on steam. I remember seeing that everywhere and now can't even activate it. It's crazy how everything changes. I didn't expect so many people to have games revoked when I first did this thread. Hopefully, it will settle down.

Was sorting out my key list the last few days and found a couple for that one. :/
Thanks for the heads up.

We all need to rub you for good luck then - whatcha mean that sounds creepy?!!! :)

I think many people have bought something from G2A at some point and in fairness it's only a minor percentage of the games that got revoked. I have made some nice friends on here over the years but I also got scammed. It's part of being online and we all learn from it. I wouldn't change anything and it's been a really fun and positive time on here. As long as you have your health life is good :)

Seems that the revoke storm for people is happily dying down and hopefully it's behind us. G2A came up the worst for keys according to people so they need to fix that. I have yet to hear back about the revoked key they said they would pay me back for so fingers crossed :)

Never Alone, though I traded a shitty bundle game for it so no big loss
Comment has been collapsed.
At least you weren't alone in your pain - couldn't resist! I already replaced my Rochard so like you say no big loss.
Comment has been collapsed.
weird, I have the same game that I traded and everything is working fine... So maybe is a trade or a game that you won on a GA or something and that person reversed the payment, so the seller decided to revoke your key.
Comment has been collapsed.
Like a lot of others, I bought a game through G2A that was later revoked. In my case, it was The Magic Circle.
In retrospect perhaps I should have been a bit suspicious as the price was very good and I don't remember ever seeing it in a bundle. I've bought other games from there that were very cheap, but as they had all been in bundles I made an educated guess that the seller had bought the bundle and then sold the keys there individually. I was definitely gutted to lose that game, mind, as I've wanted to play it for some time and have been looking to get it for a better price. As it is, I never even played it once before losing it, but seeing as how it had been obtained through questionable means I can't really claim to be entitled to it.
It's just a damn shame that the person who stole the key got my money and I ended up with nothing because of that person's crime.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah, OK. I must have missed that one somehow. Pity, I'd have bought the bundle for it.
I looked it up, and it was in the monthly bundle. That was why I missed it. That was one I really wish I'd bought. But that does explain its low price, though as it was revoked it may have been my bad luck to get a stolen key.
Comment has been collapsed.
Everyone on here has bought through G2A because of the price. Overall, it seems to be a tiny percent of the games that have been revoked so it's still worth taking a chance as long as it's not at a big price. Nothing worse than getting duped by scumbags on here and boy, did I get bent over on here over time - live and learn!

Is there an official list published by valve with the official stores where you can buy keys with no danger of them beeing revoked? (i am not asking for a list of sites people consider to be official, nor rumored to be recomended by valve, but an official list published on their website). Im curious sience here at my country (and im sure also on many other) you can find real stores, inside fancy malls, that give you a propper ticket and sell you the keys. They claim to be official, and they have lots of those cards with the keys printed, but when they dont have the product, they buy it on G2A anyway (and of course, if you fail at activating, they give you back your cash).
Comment has been collapsed.
i don't think valve has something like that., but the publishers do, for instance ubisoft: https://support.ubi.com/en-US/Faqs/000022581/Approved-Retail-Vendor-List
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not aware of any official list of stores where you can buy official keys as Steam would rather you buy everything off them! Personally I found that I could get a lot of the cheaper games on Tremor games that were as good as the price on G2A. G2A isn't as good or cheap as it used to be and it's pretty much pay your cash and take your chance which is nerve wracking - hehe.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sadly, at my country we have a limit on how much USD we are allowed to spend using our credit card, so in my case G2A offers me the chance to print a ticket, go to a real life store and pay that ticket in real cash or by credit card (already converted to our local coin). Thats the main reason i currently buy only from them, while i would love to buy from indiegala or humblebundle, but i still think G2A is a nice website.
Comment has been collapsed.
Totally agree with you that G2A is a nice website and have got many nice deals off them. Hopefully they can change their seller security and get things sorted out. Sucks having limits in your country as to what you can get currency wise :(

I've had a couple games revoked.
Warlock 2: The Exiled (when it was price glitched on gamersgate)
Dead Island - Got this from a friend and all of our copies got revoked while we were playing it, apparently the trader was selling stolen keys. Bought it over when it was on sale because it was pretty fun at the time.
Dirt 3 - I'm sure a LOT of people had this revoked as there was like 250k+ leaked keys or something of the sort, was pretty far back.
Seeing as I've been hearing more and more about G2A being pretty shady I would probably never buy from there.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, it is true you are taking a risk. Still, from my point of view, sience G2A offers me the best payment option, i will still buy from them, and worse case, i will lose a few cents. Till now my experience was great, i never got any key revoked and it is for many reasons one of my favorite sites. I will, however, avoid buying expensive titles.
Comment has been collapsed.
Never really seen warlock 2 reduced so that snuck by me! Dead Island I bought also including the remastered and didn't run into Dirt 3. GA2 I bought not a huge amount of games and only one has been revoked so overall pretty good. It seems to be the one place that everyone has had their games revoked against. I'm still waiting to get a refund off them so have to say that's been super slow.

Can get Rochard on tremor games for 295 which is a pretty good deal. Never heard of Beyond eyes :(
Comment has been collapsed.
Something is up with Beyond Eyes. Quite a few of those getting revoked. I got mine through a trade, so I don't know where it came from originally.

I bought Broken Age in October. It got revoked a few days ago. Bought it from G2A.
Comment has been collapsed.
Super sorry to hear about Broken Age - did you get to play it at all?
Comment has been collapsed.
No. I didn't play it because of my large backlog. My brother has the game so I might play it on family-sharing or buy the game if it gets a good discount or if it gets bundled.
Comment has been collapsed.
Most likely somebody bought it with a fake credit card and sold it on reselling sites.

I think most of us on here have a ton of games we have yet to play - myself including witcher 3 which is pretty bad! Currently playing The Dwarf Run which was superb value and super fun to play - have to use my brain a little so not used to that! At some point Broken Age will be on sale so hang in there my friend :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks alot my friend. I'm lucky it was only one game and especially a game that is easy and cheap to replace so no great loss there. It's far worse for other people unfortunately :(
Comment has been collapsed.
Keep quiet about it since I doubt that the guy you won it from knew it was going to get revoked. You won't get into trouble since you had nothing to do with it apart from your win.
Comment has been collapsed.
Seems to be a lucky draw as to what or who gets revoked so fingers crossed :)

I lost the Untold Stories dlc for Resident Evil 4 which I bought from G2A, so I was kind of waiting for it to happen. Oh well. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Better the dlc than the game! I have yet to play any of the Resident Evil's on pc - oops!
Comment has been collapsed.
I haven't played any of them either. I just none of my other G2A bought games get revoked. I bough Batman: Arkham Knight, Mirror's Edge and Alan Wake from there and it'd be a shame to lose those.
Comment has been collapsed.
Good games to get but from everything on here it seems to be the average to lose just one game so fingers crossed you will lose none of those. At least the revokes are seeming to be less and less which is a good sign :)
Comment has been collapsed.
You are one of the lucky ones - quick, buy some scratchcards!!
Comment has been collapsed.
Only had two games revoked so far - that one I forgot the name of (Drunk Wizards? maybe) that was given away en masse and then revoked, and Sunless Sea from when Humble accidentally gave us the better edition ;_; That red Support message you get when a game is revoked is unpleasant even if you expect it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Another guy also said he had Drunk Wizards revoked so at least that wasn't a bad one to lose. I got a big surprise when I saw my revoke message but am thankful it was only Rochard which I replaced pretty easily on tremor games :)

Anyone on here ever get any of their games revoked? I just got Rochard revoked without any explanation. Read their FAQ's and it say's that the publisher can do it if they suspect a game was frauduently purchased. I bought the game in September 2015 but honestly can't remember where - might have even won it in a competition for all I know. Just wondered what other people's thought's on steam revoking a game without more clarification. I'm not bothered with the game as like most people on here I have a large library and it's pretty cheap to purchase again if I wanted to.
