Many dogs sit by the door expectantly every day just about the time their owner is due home from work. How do they know what time it is? It turns out dogs can track time with their noses. The scent of their owner diminishes over the course of the day and when it reaches a sufficiently faint level, they know it's "arrive-home o'clock".
In order to prove this, dog owners were asked to remove their shirts at lunchtime while at work. The shirts were taken to their home and swung around the air in each room... refreshing their scent to higher levels. In each case, the normally punctual pets failed to wait for their owners at the correct time and were instead surprised by their arrival home.
Now whenever I leave my house, I imagine my dog yelling "smell ya later!"

That's an Interesting Thread , so i'll take the chance to talk about my Hobby !
On my free time , I am making all sorts of electronics projects , Radios , Little Solar Robots , Remote Controlled Devices and many othes , my friends say it's a weird hobby , but I personally enjoy making those little things !
And Anyways it's important to do whatever you like and makes you feel complete in this life , because you only live once !
Here's a link showing a few solar Robots I've built in action ! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WjC-qXsPT0
Thank you Yirg for making this Thread !

I love this post, but the rule is invitees have to be Level 1+. Don't you have some leftover key from a bundle to create a giveaway? Even a 10 cent game will bump you into Level 1 (and will also give you access to far more giveaways on this site).

I Actually entered this post just Because I like it's theme so much , you are right about the giveaway part , I've gotten a few Games myself from this site , I guess it's time to repay the favor to those amazing people and start making a few of my own !
Thank you Yirg !

You don't get on the group with a 1-word comment, but your ratio puts you on my whitelist, so I guess that's something :-)
If you hurry up you can still enter that giveaway:

Honestly, just work hard at everything you do. It may not be easy or turn out the way you like but you got to keep at it. I believe that god or whatever will help you along the way but you can't just sit there and expect it to happen. Work at it.

I have 2, one of which has to do the magic :P
Once I was listenning to a fairly old man making a presentation, and he was talking about relationships(there was a question and the subject quickly turned to that, don't really remember what was the question), and he asked what do you look in a woman. She must be pretty, smart, wise, humble, honest, good sense of humor... etc all that stuff. At some point he asks: "What makes you think she deserves you?".

TLDR; Basically explains what we see when we close our eyes according to a research :)
Wel; i wondered what was it that we see when we close our eyes. Apparently our eyes can make light even in darkness. Its different for every person but the lightshow that happens when we close our eyes seeing bright colours and blobs are called ''phospenes''. Just like fireflies or deep sea creatures can glow, cells within in our eyes emit biophotons or biologically produced light particles. The lightshow intensifies when we rub our eyes when feeling really sleepy.
Biophotons exist in your eyes because your atoms constantly emit and absorb tiny particles of light, or photons. This photon exchange is just a part of normal cellular function. Your eyes can’t tell the difference between photons from outside light and the biophotons emitted by your own atoms. Either way, your optic nerve simply relays these light signals to the brain, which must then decide if it accurately represents the real world around you, or if it’s just a phosphene.
Our eyes actually produce far more biophotons than we end up seeing as phosphenes. When you rub your eyes, this generates biophotons in many parts of the eyes,. But they are mostly absorbed locally. Almost all of the biophotons you see are the ones both emitted and absorbed by atoms in the retina — the part of your eye responsible for detecting light.
Inside the retina, millions of tiny cells called rods and cones collect light and convert it into electrical signals. These signals travel through the optic nerve to a part of the brain called the visual cortex. Here, the brain reconstructs an image using the information received from the eyes. When a reconstructed image looks like nonsense, the brain is quick to label the image as unreal, or a phosphene.
But that information doesn’t always come from your retinas. According to István Bókkon, a Hungarian neuroscientist who works at the Vision Research Institute in Lowell, Massachusetts. phosphenes can originate in various other parts of the visual system, too. Research has shown that direct electric and magnetic stimulation of the brain can trigger phosphenes, and Bókkon hopes to soon be able to prove that biophotons are responsible for these phosphenes as well.
Depending on where a phosphene originates, it can take on a variety of shapes, patterns and colors. Different atoms and molecules emit photons of different wavelengths, which is why we see different colors. A phosphene with an orderly geometric pattern like a checkerboard may have originated in a section of the retina where millions of light-collecting cells are arranged in a similarly organized pattern. Researchers have also found that different areas of the brain’s visual cortex create certain specific shapes of phosphenes.
In the 1950s, the German researcher Max Knoll at the Technische Universität in Munich came up with a classification scheme for phosphene shapes. He studied phosphenes in over a thousand volunteers and came up with 15 categories, including triangles, stars, spirals, spots and amorphous blobs. He discovered that by prodding different areas of the visual cortex with an electrode device, he was consistently able to induce the same kinds of phosphenes.
In the lab, scientists generally use electric probes and fancy magnetic machines to make people see phosphenes. But the phosphenes we mostly see every day are not related to any type of electromagnetic stimulation. Instead, most phosphenes occur spontaneously when the atoms in our eyes exchange their biophotons. You can also trigger phosphenes yourself by applying pressure to your eyes — but be careful trying this at home!
The most common non-spontaneous phosphenes are pressure phosphenes, like the ones you see when you rub your eyes. According to Bókkon, any type of pressure on the eyes can cause them to emit an “excess of biophotons” that create intense visuals. Sneezing really hard, getting whacked in the head, and standing up too fast (causing a drop in blood pressure) are also ways to trigger pressure phosphenes.
The only people who never see phosphenes are people who have been blind since birth. But people who lose their vision due to illnesses or injuries usually don’t lose all visual functions. Because phosphenes can originate in different parts of the visual system, “theoretically, all blind people who could previously see can retain the ability to see phosphenes,” explained Bókkon.
Researchers have also been studying ways to trigger phosphenes in blind patients to try and figure out a way to potentially restore their vision. If scientists can use technology to make the blind see phosphenes, perhaps they can use similar technology make them see real images.
So next time you crawl into bed, close your eyes and admire the phosphenes. Now that you can appreciate the visual effects in a whole new way, you can just lay back and enjoy the show.
If i would describe the image of what i see when i close my eyes is like looking into a galaxy but with much more green blue and light purple colours

Long long time ago there was a boy named Tom and he was very interesting guy. One day the king himself heard about Tom and he invited this boy to his castle. But no one could expected that on his way boy will have terrible accident. The lama that he had been riding on got scared of yellow flowers growing near the tract and its just throw off its rider on the ground. Tom was unconscious for 8 years now and he never made it to the castle to show off his interesting personality to the mighty King. The end.

So, I couldn't decide between a small useful thing and a big interesting thing, so here's some of each:
(Bonus misconceptions: The Buddha, Sidhartha Gautama, wasn’t fat. In the original legends he was a lean man, which makes sense since he didn't indulge his appetites much. That fat fellow we see statues of and often call the “The Buddha” was something that originated in China, not India, and possibly is based on a different character altogether. Also, Vikings never had horns on their helmets. This makes sense too--it would have been terrifically impractical in a fight.)

This is exactly the type of comment I was hoping for. Thanks for sharing!
As for the Start menu, I personally don't go through all the clutter and just type what I need. For example, if I start typing "pai" I'll get a list with Paint and Paint Shop Pro and can easily select what I need. If I type "soun se" I'll get the Sound Card Settings. Sometimes I just use the Run dialog (Winkey+R) and type the name of a less accessible program (e.g diskmgmt.msc for the Disk Management tool, or lusrmgr.msc for the Users and Groups tool).

I don't know what to write at the moment. I've written lots of stuff in the past, but it's usually on a whim and during a sudden brainstorm of ideas.
I've once written about the possibility of extremely intelligent bots being on Steam without us noticing, multiple times about time traveling, about human's nature to destroy earth and life, dreams and how they can be a much more important part of our lives than we think...
Yeah. I think I've run out of ideas for now.
But I already own most of the games so I wasn't planning of entering anyways. :P
Thanks though!

Well... I can share the most useful management tool that I learned to use since ever... it's called 5W2H and it stands for a grid with:
This tool teach me a important lesson: everything you want to achieve in your life, you must write it.
Even doing a micro management for little tasks, optimizes anything in your life...
Since you wrote it somewhere, every fucking day in your life you will remember that your life have one goal: achieve what you wrote.
So, I really recommend to use it. From my personal experience, I must say, this management tool really got where I want to be.
If you want something, start making plans write. If you want a girl, manage it. If you want a job, manage it. If you want a giveaway without spend much, plan it. Prepare yourself to the path you need to cross. Its all about antecipate steps. Believe me, you'll be there, before you even get there.
pic related and sorry for crappy english... hope it helps someone at some time.

That's very interesting approach. At first I thought you were referring to some project management software that implements these questions, but I guess all you need is a scorecard of sorts and the willingness to apply this system (which doesn't seem very complex, but is counter to how most of us take decisions). Thanks for sharing!

I don't know about that. As someone who likes coffee so much that I roast, grind and brew it using multitude of methods, I don't have any stomach issues to report. And I do consume a lot of it every day.
Fun fact: My nickname ("Yirg") actually comes from a specific type of coffee beans grown in Ethiopia.

my country has almoast all kind of climates there are. we have deserts, jungles and large flat spaces. We have the highest peak of America and cant remember well, but the widest river too. Summers go up to 45° C +- and winters goes down to -15°C +-. But not in the whole country. Im talking about Argentina.
South America in general its way underrated, and its unfair. :D

One concern many people have about South America is personal security of travelers. I'm pretty sure to most locals it's not an issue, as they know how to get around and what to avoid. I guess if you do some research you can follow the same do's and don'ts relatively easily.
BTW, it's the one continent (not counting Antarctica) that I haven't traveled to yet. I hope it happens sooner rather than later. Argentina does sound amazing.

[Giveaway Ended]
The rules are simple: Write something interesting, insightful or helpful and I'll send you a link add you to a temporary Steam group for this giveaway. No copy paste jobs please. Be creative, be original. Something more elaborate and thoughtful than a 1-liner would increase the chances of being invited. You can write about your hobby, art, technology or anything else - as long as it does not break the rules of the forum. You also have to be at least Level 1. The time limit is next Sunday (Aug 16) at midnight CET.
If you meet the above criteria you will be included in a temporary group for this giveaway, and if your ratio is not terrible I will also add you to my whitelist, most likely permanently.
Don't forget to vote for the game you wish to be in the giveaway. Majority rules, so it may not be the one that you chose. I hope in the future SG adds an option to add a list of games to a giveaway and let the winner select one.
Edit: Thanks for writing something interesting, insightful or helpful. The winning game voted by the majority of users is the Just Cause Collection (consisting of the first two games in the series). To those of who don't have it, you now have (almost) a day to join the giveaway:
