Hi, I wanted to know if there are fees when you send money to another paypal account/user. I actually found a deal here in SG and the other guy wants pp money. Is there any way to avoid the fees? Someone told me that if I send the money as friends/family from a pp balance to another it will not be fees, but someone else told me that if I send money internationally i must pay fees no matter what. Could someone who is experienced to give me a clear answer to my question? Btw my account is linked/connected to my bank account. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you're paying directly with your bank account, the fee will be very small.

You can try and see. The total is shown before confirming (and it's almost always correct).

Make sure its not a scam. We already have too much "i got scammed" thread.

But paypal has no fee if friends/family. Even if its international.

But even if there is fee, you can see it before you confirm the payment. So dont worry about it

Is it from PP balance or it takes the money from your Bank account?
As far as I know PP takes 3.4% + some cents when you add funds to your PP balance or sent money from your Bank account through PP. If you do a transaction with PP balance there are no fees.

But it may varies in different countries.

I don't have it linked to my bank account, so I have a 0.30$ fee (unless I pay from balance) + the standard percentual.

There's almost always a fee. If you send it as a regular payment, eventual fees are on the recipient, and if you send as a gift it's on you.
If you pay with a credit card there's a rather large fee, and if you send international payment there's a small fee even if you pay with PP funds or your bank account. If you're from the UE you can send to other people from the UE without paying the international fee.

There's a fee even for friends/family payment for me. 2.5% on top off basic 0.30 USD.

From experience with doing exactly that:

  1. Using Friends/Family supposedly revokes your right to Paypal fraud protection. Best not to use it for strangers if that's true.
  2. Even using F/F there is still a small fee
[Paypal says this fee can be waived, I'm not sure about the conditions involved.
I've never seen it waived, personally- it's either removed from the end result, or added to the money being transferred, as Tempete noted above.].
  3. For international, there is a larger fee. It can get quite large, even with F/F- I ended up paying over twice as much after converting Usd to Euro- but that's in part due to the site in question having a 1-1 usd-euro pricing. As such, not sure how high the fee actually was, anymore.
The same other person converting euro to usd with me had far better fees- I think part of it might be federal surcharges based on which nation is taking what part in the transfer. This seems validated by the fact that 'request funds' and 'send funds' ended up giving us different fees. Could just have been a weird fluctuation in exchange rate over the two days. Couldn't say for sure :P
Either way, the fees were notable enough I decided against doing it again in the future :X
