I started using Ubuntu 12.04 (i'm a newbie) and i already installed the nVidia drivers and stuff up to date.

After that, i downloaded Steam from the website and i double-clicked on it. I did the installation process without any problems, but when i want to run Steam, it just does nothing. It doesn't show any kind of alert, like an update or a license agreement, just nothing.

I tried to reinstall, and delete and install again, and it's the same result.

Steam's version is 1.0.0.28. Maybe with a little old version could work?.

Maybe i can use this to help me (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valve#Alternative_Installation_Methods), but i don't where it's going to be installed :/.

I meet the system requirements and i use Steam on Windows. I'm using a 80GB HDD just for Ubuntu.

Any help is appreciated!.

Perhaps try installing Steam using the software centre. I heard Steam has been added to it as well.

I tried, but it doesn't run.

I found the issue. Steam on Linux requires the SSE2 instruction set. So it doesn't work for me because of that, like Alien Swarm, Dota 2, Portal 2, CS:GO, Cubemen and Total War Battles: Shogun.

Run the command "steam" from a terminal window and check the output for errors.
