dont worry about what other say, its not really spamming if your topics are an actual conversation starter with a point.

You guys seem like mean people. I on the other hand, will answer the question.

My worst decision was probably buying the Quakecon and Square-Enix packs... I may have played a couple games from each pack. Huge waste of money.

It's not like they expire, you can play rest of those in few months or years even

Maybe someday those games will be worth a million dollars.

Or they disappear into thin air..which is more likely i think :D

Maybe someday steam will come to an end and all your 'subscriptions' will be cancelled and it would all have been for nothing.. And we would start gifting other things and report people for trading canned foods with unhealthy amounts of radioactive contamination.

steamgifts forums are full of straight up jerks, assholes and trolls. its amazing to think that a community that is supposed to be about giving is so mean-spirited. people like HillaryClinton, Valzi, and PointOMan are really rude, combative, and don't interact well with people, and they are some of the most prolific posters, meaning they feel the need to spew their hate and flames on almost every post. Look and see for yourself, its the same offenders time and again.

Have we three upset you? I don't personally remember making personal attacks, though you did in your comment just now.

Also, not sure it makes much sense to call me a "mean-spirited" person in a "community that is supposed to be about giving" when you haven't given anything, but I have.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not surprising that you don't remember your personal attacks, since you make so many so often. And, just to further demonstrate your complete lack of logic or ability to reason, I have given away more games than you on this site, with over DOUBLE your contributor value. Not saying its much at all, but its still more than twice yours, and you're trying to call me out? laugh my ass off. the ship and hacker evo. both free games. and bunch of heroes, $1.69. what a joke.

Permalink

Oops, misread your profile page. Sorry about that.

Regarding the personal attacks, I still have no idea what you're talking about. I think you're probably making it up because you're mad at me for something or another.

Isn't any way to play Steam games in compatibility mode?

You can go to the .exe of the game and run that in compatibility mode.

Hell, you can run most of the older steam games without steam even running.

have you tried using Windows Virtual PC. It should be included with W7.

I have Vista and all I had to do was download Virtual PC 2007 for free. I can play XCOM Apocalypse, Dungeon Keeper, Stonekeep and many other games thanks to this tool.

The only drawback is that it can't emulate graphics cards, so if your game doesn't have a software rendered option then you can't play it.

EDIT: Almost forgot. Virtual PC requires you to own an actual copy of Windows 95/98/ME/whatever. You'll need to install the OS the first time around inside your virtual machine and that's it.

What is the worst decision you ever made, while you were using Steam?

To have almost all my games on Steam, instead to diversify more and have more games on GOG and other places.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hate having my games all over the place. That's my I prefer to buy Steam keys, and haven't brought myself to buying any of the awesome adventure games on GOG. I have 1 game on Amazon, 3 on GMG, a bunch of retail copies...it's hectic :/

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I like having all my games in one place too, but I have to weigh that against the implications of a single corporation having control over my entire library. Odds are Valve aren't going to be the good guys forever.

Permalink

They crossed that line already.

I haven't had any real gripes with them yet, aside from the fact that they still haven't implemented a way for those of us who live in Germany to buy uncensored versions of certain games.

+1, especially more places that sell DRM-free where you don't buy just subscriptions and can be forced any time to accept any terms they want if you want access to your games.

Lol, I diversify, have games in just about every service. It's expensive, because I accidentally re-buy games when they go on sale and I forget I own them already on my backlog at a different place.

Not really on Steam, but the worst decision was trying to buy Battlefield 2 from EA, only to get a message that their servers were busy or some such, and the purchase couldn't be validated. So I went and bought from Steam, no trouble at all. So the bad decision comes in from buying it a 2nd time when I didn't need to.

In addition: Buying Hoard during the Winter sale for the cheev. Not worth it.
