You really shouldn't stop taking your medication on a whim. It can do more bad than good. This is doubly true for psychiatric medication.
But if you doubt your doctor then you can just always look for a different one.
You don't have to worry about withdrawal, you've been taking the thing for 3 days. That's not enough to build up a dependency.
Good luck and i hope things turn out good for you. :3

Good luck TindalosKeeper but do know as a patient one can ask anything to your Doctor or Specialist Doctor, you can even ask for a second or third opinion from another Doctor but one really can't be smarter than Doctors. The safest is to ask and follow up their advise and certainly talk to them about any doubts you have concerning medication or other things.

Good luck and may the lucky shamrock be with you.
Usually, doctors are having an agreement with some drug companies in order to sell their drugs more than some others. So, maybe, that's why your doctor gave you that drug too.
In general, I'm avoiding drugs as much as possible. No, I'm not stupid to avoid them when they're needed, but I only take them when I'm pretty sure I need them (like when I have a serious fever or when I'm having a disease that needs drugs to get beaten, etc). I'm seeing people getting drugs every day all day, like they're candies, and that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I'm saying that because I want to ask you: Are you sure you need that drug or any antidepressant at all? They won't beat your depression, they'll just make it sufferable. So, maybe, an actual solution is needed to be found, rather than drugs that have many side effects.
Other than that, be brave and strong. I'm sending you my luck! :)

Don't underestimate depression, it's a serious desease that makes life unbearable and sometimes leads to lethal results. Sometimes psychotherapy is enough, sometimes drugs are unfortunately neccessary. Most likely I wouln't be talking to your right now if my parents haven't made me get help about 15 years ago. And yes, drugs can actually help beat depression (admittedly, not always), although other means would be essential as well.

Hence why I said that drugs are important when you're in a serious situation. I didn't know that they can help you beat depression. I thought they could only make it sufferable.

3 days...
you're not addicted
anyway, you should see another doctor, I see you're from CR, so it can be easier, it's free
they have psychologist and psychiatrist you can talk to
I was on prozac for a few months and it can be addictive but I didn't have any problems
you're under control, so you shouldn't have either

I've actually got off Paxil pretty easily after several years of taking it. Also, it's impossible to develop dependency after such a short period of time; the effects you're having are most likely psychosomatic (especially considering the condition you're suffering from). Also, you should consider the fact that it's almost impossible to have no side effects while taking an antidepressant at all, but they are usually pretty moderate or even small (in my case it's mouth dryness, nothing more serious; I've been taking Venflaxin for about 5 yearsfor now). Don't pay too much attention to the side effects mentioned in the instruction, the chances of actually getting any serious ones are not that big. Don't take any rushed actions, always discuss change of dosage with your doctor, always inform them of any side effects, and never just stop taking serious meds without consulting them first, that's the most sure way to go into actual withdrawal. If your don't trust your doctor, get another opinion (from another specialist, not from internet). And good luck, of course!

You shouldn't stop taking your prescribed medicine without consulting it with a doctor. It doesn't have to be the same doctor if you don't trust him. Just don't try to treat yourself with knowledge from internet. You may cause more harm then good this way.
I would advice psychotherapy but... you have to be stable first. And to be honest you doesn't look like that (IMHO Paxil looks like a good choice in your case).
tldr:
VISIT FUCKING DOCTOR

It's just a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI), like Prozac, which is a common first medical intervention for major depression. The most likely side effect is a slight sensation of agitation, like drinking a bit too much coffee, and possibly affected sleep (although that is usually not good in you have depression because serotonin also is related to sleep regulation. The reason that the doctor starts you on a small amount, is because the dosage varies for each patient due to the way the drug works - it prevents reuptake of some of the neurotransmitter serotonin into blood platelets, leaving more of it available to function in your brain. Low serotonin levels in the brain are the most common reason for major depression, and this treatment will increase the amount available whether the cause is low serotonin production or overactive reuptake. Since the cause and degree of severity is different for everyone, they begin treatment cautiously. If they were less cautious, the severity of the agitation would be greater and could translate into a feeling of anxiety in some people. The real risk here is that people that have been harbouring suicidal ideation for months but have been too depressed to do anything now have physical drive and can turn these thoughts into actions. The doctor probably booked you in for another appointment to review your treatment after one month, at which time they would probably increase your dosage. There is no addiction, but if you suddenly stop taking it after an extended period, the dramatic drop in serotonin levels will affect your mood and your sleep, which is why they taper you off the drug when it is suspected that you no longer need it, rather than going cold turkey. It typically takes 10 days of continuous treatment before establishing a steady state level of the drug in your system. It is readily metabolised and after extended treatment, it takes on average 21 hours for 50% of the drug to be eliminated.

So... I've been off that wretched drug for 3 days straight now... (I've taken that drug for the past 3 days too... Just to clarify, 3 days first on use, 3 days out of it...)
Why I decided to quit? First of all... Paxil is one of the HARDEST to get off... As if you get an addiction from it... I'm serious, there's even a page with desperate people taking the drug for YEARS, and the withdrawal effects on them are BRUTAL.
Until I researched, I decided to do so... Even my psych told me to drink a quarter of the pill (5 mg), and then increase it... FUCK THAT!
According to people, Paxil is supposed to be LAST RESORT!. Why this guy decided to give me such a potent drug instead of something easier?
I don't know, but I guess the guy wanted me to get myself into a deep hole... Until it would be too late to go back...
I don't know if the withdrawals will come sooner or later... (According to people, I didn't consumed enough of the drug to get dependancy, which it would be the part where I would be DOOMED!
I'll post my progress here, in replies, to bump my thread... I really feel scared to sleep a bit, thinking I might just die in my sleep or something...
Right now, I'm trying to detox myself off the drug (Drinking lots of water, then urinating or sweating, even crying, since it's a good way to also eliminate toxins out of you!)
I pray to God I get out of this with no withdrawals...
