I've always wanted Leprechaun 4: Lost in Space on Steam.
Well, actually I want Leprechaun 6: Back 2 tha Hood but I'll settle for this.

Quite weird selection for the start.

Not really surprised after Mad Max. Was Mad Max the first or where there other non-indie films before that.

Why would anyone want to rent movies on Steam?

Because Valve is now like Google: they want to do everything and offer everything but what they were originally funded for.

They have really been pushing to be the one stop shop for the full living room experience. I would have thought the xbox one launch enough to convince them that nobody wants that kind of thing, but here we are.

I had to double-check, but these are indeed actual rentals.
That's seriously shit, given that I can find the same movies on blu-ray or DVD for the same price if I search around a bit.

Why are so many movies not available here? :C

Publishing rights. Movie publishing/airing rights are usually sold to local publishers in each country for certain periods of time (5-10 years mostly). So if they already have a local publisher, they cannot sell it through Steam there.

Well, it would seem like we don't get most of the movies over here, but at least we get Leprechaun 4: Lost in Space.

Also, 4€ for a rental? That's a bit expensive, don't you think?

Depends. Here the average wage is around 520 Euros and online movie rental price for 48 hours is usually around €2.50–3.25.

The average wage here is quite a bit higher (2614€ before tax/2001€ after tax, if my sources are correct), but renting movies tend to be cheaper than it is on steam. 4€ is the price I would expect to pay for one of these old movies if I want to own it.

Yo! The film named Russkies and the ship named Vorkabich. You made my day!

Well, out of the 61 listed, I see 11 available here. Then again, the market for cheaper movies that are not necessarily old or are B-grade enough to cost nothing are really popular even on the DVD market, so most publishing rights are continuously renewed for the local distributors.. Kind of a reminiscent behaviour for us from the socialist era.

I don't see any quality movies, so no way I'm gonna buy any of them. But I don't see many in total. Probably most of them aren't available in Greece.

The 3 or 4 movies that I like from those I either own the bluray or the movie is on netflix/prime. Why would I rent it on steam?
