I wanted to ask if I could enter a giveaway, if I have an older version of the same game? This is important if the two games appear as separate titles in my library.

For example, I own "Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Augmented Edition" -- this is no longer in store.
Can I enter giveaways for the "Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut"?

It mostly depends on the creator, but usually doesn't really liked - other people doesn't own the game at all, sorry :\

yeah that allowed in the rules. but just to be sure, ask the ga creator if it's ok since some people will take offense and probably blacklist you.

According to the SG rules, you may always enter if it's not the exact same game.

If it's essentially a bundle/package [ie, you've a base game and they're basically offering a version with DLC], then they may choose to take a reroll, as they always can with such circumstances.

If they're completely different editions, you can always enter, though as adam noted, people may not always appreciate what can sometimes come across as notable, selfish greed.

In the case of the augmented edition it is functionally the same as the base game (but with exclusive features), while Director's Cut is GOTY.
So they can choose to take a reroll if all the DLC of the [goty] package is still purchasable- which, in the case of Human Revolution, it no longer seems to be.

As such, since this is the *only way for you to get The Missing Link DLC, it likely won't qualify for a reroll.

*However, it seems to still be available through the Deus Ex complete pack. Which might qualify it for a reroll.

tl;dr, it's not entirely clear in this circumstance, but you should theoretically be able to enter Director's Cut giveaways.

If you explain the circumstances I noted above as you enter (or at least when you win), it's unlikely too many people would take umbrage at you entering.

The Director's Cut is actually a port of the WiiU version and not just the original game with all the DLC.

The Director's Cut adds both preorder DLCs (Which augmented should also have (Edit: Apparently the NA version of Augmented did NOT have the preorder DLCs. o.O)), and integrates The Missing Link DLC. Regardless of if it's a port or not, that's not relevant to its content.

So the real question is, if the texture/UI/boss upgrades, and 8 hours of director commenary of the Director's Cut, were ever implemented into the augmented version (by updates or DLC) or not...

So yeah, you may be right in that it's distinctly a different game, for the purposes of entry =O

As someone who played through both versions a few times, I can confirm: it plays a lot differently. The new boss battle mechanics alone can make builds almost unusable in the original version superior in the DC. Not to mention that the DLC integration completely rebalances the last two levels.

I didn't come into it until after the Director's Cut was released, so I wouldn't know. :X
That's useful to know, and really kinda sucks for most people who bought the base game before. :X

Yes and no. The boss fights in the original were horrible, but many players prefer it over the DC. Frankly, I like the newer version.

No, I mean, that there never really was any way to upgrade to begin with (since they're essentially different game versions), and yet the company removed The Missing Link DLC from purchase :X

Oh, that. It is because the DC had to use an earlier build of the game and the engine, and this also caused some performance issues on some configurations. (Hence the initial hate and flood of negative reviews, if you go back that far.) But when the DC came out, those who had both the base game and the DLC could buy the new version for a very low price (I think it was 5 USD if you had both).

Oh, I see.
I'm not at all a fan of temporary upgrade discounts, myself, still feels really skeevy each time it happens.
Glad I managed to pass right over that, for this game :X

Well, it was still better and more fair than the pre-order fuck-up recently on Deus Ex 4, including the sudden release date push back. Square Enix managed to completely kill all of my enthusiasm related to the franchise that has probably my favourite cRPG of all time.

Plenty of awkward marketing moments to go around, of late.

If you had some parts of Deus Ex, you got Steam-discount for Director's Cut, up to 80% if you had everything if I remember.
