Sorry about your key. Have you tried contacting the person who created the giveaway?
Also, Welcome! I would point you towards the FAQ and Guidelines as they answer alot of questions new users sometimes have.

Contact the person who made the giveaway and tell them. Maybe they don't know, maybe they sent the wrong key, it happens. They have 7 days from the day you won to provide you with a working key. If they don't, mark it as not received and move on. I suggest keeping some screen shots of when you tried to put the key in and the messages it gave you.
Also Midnight, it doesn't show up as won till you hit received.

I'm not rushing contacting the person who gifted the key as its not a major concern and hate confrontation lol key showed up next to my win message and is a valid key for said game its just linked to another account.

All of the games I've won were valid, and all of the keys I've given were valid. I suppose I could have just been lucky, but in my experience, it is not a common thing.

It happened to me. Indiegala didn't marked some of my keys as used (I have many bundles on many sites so it is hard to keep track of them). I activated those games long time ago, but for some reason i was able to generate gift links for them. I forgot that they were activated and I created GA's. I was lucky, because i was able to buy other bundle with one of those games. Additionally I traded part of that bundle for second game:)

You know you can hit the little reply word under a persons post to directly reply to that person instead of just going to the box at the bottom and posting a message right? :)
Anyway, everyone of the items I have won has been valid. There was one that got removed from my account 2 weeks later because the guy bought it with a stolen credit card or did a charge back or something. But everyone of them has been valid.
So no, generally people do not give keys that are invalid. Its against the rules for a reason. If it was ok to give fake keys, this place would fall apart very quickly and no one would bother with it.
Just contact them, if they get hostile, screen shot it and use it as evidence for the admins/mods.
But for all you know, the person simply mistyped the code in and put in an l when it should have been a 1. or a O when it should have been an 0. Or they had 2 codes and copy/pasted in the wrong one and didn't realize it.
BTW you are very lucky to have won anything at all even if it was a bad code, cause I didn't win anything till I had entered over 750 times for stuff.

well i've contacted the gifter via google translate we shall see what happens the game in qustion is listed loads atm and is one i've wanted to try for a while but was very unsure if it like it so I'll just have to keep on sitting on my fence for a while longer and yes i know i can reply but then you get small and smaller text blocks each time lol

Ouch, bad luck i guess ? I've been lucky so far and no fake giveaways won or trade scams. That said i only enter giveaways for games i'm interested in and trade only with people i can trust.
Don't give up, it's all about luck, you might not win for a year and then win a game you've always wanted.

I have the in-use-problem with Dogfight 1942, but i have won 6 other games and one dlc for Nosgoth (most old games but i like old games) in 6 month and give 3 games in the same time.

Turns out this was a bad key given out from a humble bundle after talking the guy gifting it seams unfair to mark as not received but what to do ... would humble bundle issue a working key if i contacted them?

If it past the 7 days, you follow procedure, and mark as not received. That is what you do. That is what is fair.

If it really is a bad key from humble, then he should contact them and get the key replaced after all hes the one that bought it from them. They won't deal with you because if they did, well that would mean anyone could take any key contact them and get the game taken from someone else.
If he is unwilling to contact humble and get the key replaced, then you should mark it as not received.

The guy should contact HB, if there's any problem, not you. Then if he sorts it out, you can change it to received later, I suppose. But it's his responsibility to provide a working key.

How about not giving away steam keys that are already in use on steam man i won my first giveaway input the key into steam and it was already in use.
