Weirdness of this post aside, I can actually recall a savegame incident with Deponia:TCJ after one of the recent updates. However, it is never the system that does the unexplainable, it is usually the lack of knowledge/testing on the part of those using it. In that case the savegame location was reconfigured which caused Steam Cloud Sync (or the game itself) to wipe out the previous location. Not really a linux-specific problem.
So, to answer your question: Yes, a lot of games are very much playable and enjoyable on GNU/Linux systems. ^^

But dont you get hit with banhammer more often, since some games anti cheat protection think you're cheating? Especially online ones.

This wiki article mentions one instance from back in 2006, and I cannot think of any other more recent problems with anti-cheat protection, aside from the infamous Diablo 3 mass-bans of 2012.
Which is a rather controversial subject in itself - Blizzard's official stand on that is "Playing the game on Linux, although not officially supported, will not get you banned – cheating will."
However, it looks like their definition of cheating includes "not providing the security system enough comfort to function", and that particular notion has been successfully appealed.
Both of the above cases, though, illustrate running non-native versions of the games in emulated environments. You add one more layer between the game and the system, and its DRM/AC/etc acts up. What we are happily seeing now is an increasing number of natively-ported (or even wrapped) and officially endorsed GNU/Linux-compatible releases.
TL;DR Version: Not really.

All gifts for the third wave have now been sent, and we are venturing into the depths of horror now!
Oh, and by the way, the three of you who won more than one giveaway already… consider giving SteamOS a try in the future, or I'll haunt you… ^^'

Bump for your awesomeness, always a great choice of games !

Indeed they are. Contributing to the community is always welcome within the FOSS-world (and, well, human world in general).
The required CV for 8 out of 13 current GA here is easily attainable, especially considering the amount of cheap game bundles published all the time… so I fail to see the problem. ^^'

Not entering any as all the ones I'm interested in I have already (Damn you, sales!), but kudos for making this.

Bumpy bump! More visibility for alternate platforms! Remember when Steam was Windows-only? Those days were the worst! (I only had a Mac at the time)
My roommate only has a linux box. There are literally DOZENS of us! Man, a tight linux distro without the cruft of Windows bloat, doesn't that seem like the IDEAL gaming machine? Am I wrong? It just needs more native games...

During the sale I experienced that I thought longer about buying a windows game than a linux game, cause I would have to hope for compatibility with wine/playonlinux if I don't want to reboot (yes, uptime FTW).
Oh, and last hour thanks bump btw

This event was originally planned for the beginning of September, but… better late than never!
So, Steam now lists ~860 GNU/Linux-compatible games in its catalog, which is roughly a fifth of all titles available there.
"Steam OS + Linux" as a gaming platform keeps receiving support from many indie developers and is steadily getting recognition of "AAA" publishers with games like Bioshock: Infinite (confirmed) on the radar… and Empire: Total War (speculated) released just recently by Feral Interactive!
As usual there are no rules that would prevent you from joining any of the giveaways if you are using a different OS. Au contraire, building a solid cross-platform Steam library may help you switch in the future. ^^
Let's roll, shall we?
NOTE: All giveaways in the opening post are now closed!
UPDATED on January 3-4 of 2015 to celebrate reaching a beastly number of games in my SteamOS + Linux library.
I guess this will be the last batch for now, until a proper comeback around the end of February?..
