My steam account has been hacked and is apparently sending fishing links, do not click on anything. I still have no idea how that shit happened, I contacted the support, meanwhile pay attention to anything that offers you a game for free through my account or another, there have been a LOT of request of people contacting support to recover their account, leak ? Anything else ? I honestly have no idea, but it doesn't cost anything to send out a reminder.

Addendum : To avoid any further problem I locked my account, you should no more receive messages from my steam account.

Thank you for the PSA and I'm so sorry. Usually Valve's actually fairly good about sorting these things out.

You've most likely clicked on a dodgy link sent by a friend and entered your details on a site that looks like steam but was not.

https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Gkf1X/easy-way-to-spot-avoid-steam-login-phishing-website may ring some bells for you.

Hopefully you'll get your account back soon and I have reported you via steam as I got that message.

In the last few hours, did you enter your details anywhere to log into steam on a browser?

ALWAYS: Login into official Steam website first via a fresh window. Then only try to login to 3rd party website. As you've already logged in, it wont ask you for your username and password again unless it is a fake steam login. I only ever login in this way now since these phishing links are so common nowadays.

If you've got the details to hand, steam should have you back up and running in no time. Best of luck to you!

That's a good advice, I'll do that way, but no, I didn't actually do that, that's why I checked my history and didn't find anything.
It's ok, I'll eventually find out, for now I can only warn people and apologize for the messages I didn't sent.

I was just about to write you a comment since I got messaged by your account with some fishy looking promise of AAA games for free. Sorry to hear that happened to you. I'm crossing my fingers that you can get it fixed asap.

Sorry to hear this... and checking it out, I've just got the message, which anyway would seem quite suspicious to me. To be on safe site, I'm blocking you, until you confirm, that you were able to recover it. I hope, that they will deal with it soon and that you will not suffer any serious losses.

That makes me quite uneasy. Sounds to me like Steam may have a serious problem, or you got a serious virus. As I understand, with Steamguard they have to take over your account immediately after you make a foul login attempt, so if you didn't send the authentication code, and your Steamguard is not compromised by a virus, it would seem like a Steam's problem.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No problem on steam side, phishing site asks you for 2fa code just after you type username and pass, then script does its thing and it logs in, they sometimes write that you code was wrong so you type 2nd one (if they need 2 codes, to use for trade or something 2nd one). I don't see what can steam do if you are typing your details to fake site...At least steam support is most of the time very fast in recovering account.

I don't remember going on a similar website and my History doesn't show any website where I could have entered my steam password.
Apparently it's related though as they spammed my friendlist with links of similar fashion until I locked my account (that should be added, on those things to help people recover their account, you can lock your account instantly following the link, it not only helps to recover it also helps to lock so you lose nothing).
I made sure to fully secure my emails though, if then went through that, it could really be worse.

I appreciate that you guessed that way haha ! Don't worry I locked the account so they can't do anything anymore. To be honest, I didn't even know it was possible, I went straight to the support, but the link provided in the mail you receive is actually different.

I had my account hacked a few years ago - they essentially social engineered their way through getting my email pw reset through my email provider. Anything up with your email if you don't think it's login? (I also didn't have 2FA back then though)

I cleared everything email wise yesterday, set up 2FA on it + app passwords, so now at least there it's clean.

As a few other people I have removed you for now. Feel free to readd when you get your account back (hopefully soon). I would double check that history of websites and think if you maybe used the Steam overlay browser. Because considering you had 2FA and there is no reports of a huge mass of Steam accounts compromised (aka probably not something on Steam side of things) there is most likely something there.

I'll check again today, maybe I missed it, but I had a look on the link given by people, I don't remember anything looking like that, so maybe they went through my email which I didn't have 2FA on. I honestly don't know.
Everything has been double checked and secured through all my other account and I learned you can lock your steam account, which I did and should be shared as bonus as how to join the support, it avoid items being stolen, etc.

These people are really aggressive about this. They most likely would have tried to sell your account to someone else before you locked it.

Best thing to have done is to keep the last key you activated. In my case last December (even though I KNOW I did NOT click on any links), I kept an HB key I used a day before. So I had proof that the account was mine. Got it back in about 24 hours.

I wish you luck.

When this had happend to me several months ago, I could tell the support the exact time when it happened (I got emails in quick succession about credentials being changed at that point of time), along with a PayPal transaction id from the last thing i bought from their store directly.
Luckily their support was quick to help and got me my account back without any damages.

Fingers crossed for a quick and painless recovery.

That's what I gave them, but after they told me that the email didn't match, except they never asked my first email, just my contact email, anyway, I do know what is my first email and the following, so no hard question to answer, but waiting 18 hours for that is really long and painful.
