Hi there, I recently won a Mirror's Edge giveaway on steamgifts. When the guy sent me the code I tried redeeming it on steam but it didn't work. I took screenshots and emailed him about it. He told me that the key was Origin, not Steam. Am I allowed to mark the game, "as received" or not? I just don't want to get banned or anything.

It's not allowed to giveaway origin keys :-) afterall. It's STEAMgifts.com :P

If it wasn't a steam key it should be marked as not received.

There are a few Origin approved keys, but that's not one.

There are none. Battlefield 3 (as well as Minecraft) used to be accepted, but they were both removed as options months ago.

As mentioned, mark it as Not Received. Wins are required to be activated on the account of the winner, and not being done so can get the user hit with the ban hammer. An Origin key will not be shown on your Steam account for obvious reasons.

Let the gifter know that while you are at it.

Alright, that's what I thought, I just wanted to doublecheck. Now I'm faced with the moral dilemma of whether or not it's okay to keep the origin key even though I'll mark it as, "Not received".

I'd sort of argue that it is, considering it's the gifter's fault that they weren't paying attention to the site rules and they already gave it to you, though I know some people can disagree

Go ahead. He either didn't read the rules (and only has himself to blame) or ignored them hoping for someone he could trick (and then deserves worse than the loss of a key he wasn't going to use himself).
