Unfortunately a lot of R* games require R* launcher installed (even if you own it through steam), similar to Ubisoft/ EA. So I'm unsure how that will be affected.

Through the steam hardware survey quite a few people may be affected by this. Personally I've been on Win 10 for years now, but haven't made the jump to 11 yet. But I completely understand the situation where some hardware doesn't support, or won't run newer versions of windows staying on 7.

Even if you own the games on steam you have to use it anyway with any of their newer titles, just like uplay.

Not even newer, annoyingly. GTA4 requires the launcher too.

I used to be fine with Win. XP was good, then 7 and even 10. I didn't have problems. 11 however, I think will be the final straw to lead me to Linux. With SteamOS more and more things can be run with proton and M$ just seems to be making Win 12 sound worse and worse.

With the Linux versions of anti-cheats, there is almost no obstacle to run Windows games on Linux, it just needs to be added by devs and voilà. Windows is a privacy nightmare anyway, and really owning an OS feels much more different.
There are also really nice writing tools on Linux, such as bibisco.

I really dont get it how these kind of things come as surprise to many people? Like Microsoft literally gave that information years ago, and why should software developers provide support for unsupported OS when they can concentrate on fewer and "more secure"

Right? When steam dropped support it made sense, it's old and unsafe and not supported and people were calling me out as a "shill" or other BS. The hills people will go die on is crazy.

I understand hardware compatibility, privacy and telemetry concerns, but I don't understand being against new things (I totally agree some OS are better than other) - like literally if we always had stayed true to "best" OS than I don't think we would have even XP to begin with. Not to forget software and hardware evolution over time, and nothing can stay relevant and safe forever
