That's just steam being steam, during sales, missing/glitched inventories but temporary stuff though. If your copy did disappear for real and you know you bought the game legally, a ticket to steam support and a bit of waiting should get your game back.

I just had a weird experience.
I made a giveaway last night. Payday. Nothing special. Got a four-pack, one for me and three for gifts. Pretty standard I guess. Actually I did this a while ago. Last night was the last copy.
I knew it was in there, but I looked to make sure. Payday, and two coupons nobody wants.
This morning I get home. GA has ended, click here yadda yadda yadda. So I copy the email and click over to Steam...
Only the coupons are there. No indication that there was a game there. Portal 2 has its own inventory (why?) and that has nothing, and Steam's is 2 (the coupons). Clicked over to my profile, then back to inventory... now the game is there. Whew!
I guess I would have had to buy the game to gift it within the 7 days had it legitimately (or rather illegitimately) been taken out of my inventory... and I suppose I would have done so... but damn.
