if you dont need any of the additional features like encryption and remote controll, you will be fine with basic win8.1

you can but you dont need it...it will take up a little more space on disk but it wont have any impact on performance

only reason to have win8/8.1 is touchscreen, otherwise stick with win7

i sort of want pro for group policy because you get more settings that way, but the price difference doesn't seem worth it at all. i'd recommend core or base or whatever the normal one in the purple is called to pretty much anyone. i need to buy it myself since my preview copy just ran out yesterday. unfortunately microsoft is a total jerk about it so my computer is pretty much unusable for a couple days until amazon ships it.

Best advice right now is to stick with Windows 7. Windows 8 has been designed for touchscreen and is a real pain in the ass to use on a regular computer.

Why do we have a thread begging for help pirating Windows?

Here you go, it shows how you can get it legally.

Lol... no need to change to windows 8.
Just stick to Windows 7, not worth risking compatibility problems with Windows 8.1.
Better do some research before changing to windows 8.1:

P.S If you don't know how plug in a USB, you probably shouldn't be touching the OS...

I am going to be honest with you. Change windows, but from win 7 32 bits to win 7 64 bits, there is a vast difference between the versions.
I will not talk trash about win 8, but it sucks big time. So frustrating to navigate it, and the other stupid screen that always pop up when you move the mouse (touchpad) near to the left lower corner (play/pause videos, or even trying to click an icon)
Seriously, believe me you will find that OS frustrating 1 hour after you install it. (Safe mode wont even start as usual.)
