If you're going to play the game you buy, maybe you should tell us what kind of games you like or what genre. If you only want to get it for your collection then really any game can do.
What I recommend (if you like the genre):
The Binding of Isaac
LEGO games (LEGO LOTR if you like the trilogy)
Prison Architect
Braid
Darksiders
Don't Starve
Skyrim
Left 4 Dead 2
LIMBO
Mount & Blade (Warband for multiplayer)
Stacking
Super Meat Boy
Terraria
Torchlight
Vessel
Titan Quest
Mirror's Edge

I'm just looking for suggestions based on people's experiences, and if i like the look of it, it'll get bought and played, I don't really have a specific genre preference

Try Just Cause 2 if you want to chill and blow up stuff over a 400 square miles tropical island.
Get Half Life 2 if you want an excellent FPS game.
Buy F.E.A.R. if you like FPSs with an horror feel.
Try Sleeping Dogs for Hong Kong intense police action, fighting and shooting. Nice story too.
Play Mafia 2 for a pretty nice third person shooting game, with an excellent story line.
Get The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim for hours and hours of complexe RPG gameplay.
Buy Trine 2 for a wonderful, beautiful game.
I guess that's enough... For now. ;)

If you like old school platformers (meaning, kinda hard...ish, I guess), then I suggest Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams. :D

Anomaly: Warzone Earth. Entry level solo strategy-cum-action game.
War of the Vikings for fast-paced multiplayer action, select your warrior + pick one of 2 teams and battle to the death.
The King of Fighters XIII a trip down memory lane, a 2D fighter with great gameplay. Bears a strong audiovisual resemblance to the Street Fighter 3 series (from over 10 years ago)
Mass Effect, a great 3rd person shooter set in an outlandish world.
The 2nd Mass Effect is a great sequel too.
