UPD.

The update is here:
http://www.no-mans-sky.com/foundation-update/

And heres a Video
for all you lazy asses who dont want to read =)))

So it actually happened, Hello games, broke the seal of silence :
http://www.pcgamer.com/no-mans-sky-developer-finally-breaks-silence-to-announce-base-building-update/
And the message about the foundation update itself :
http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/11/development-update-2/

My personal opinion... no matter what happened before, for a small studio they got all the money they needed from NMS preorders, they could have just go away from it after all the direct uncensored hate... Yet still they are working on it, trying to deliver their promises, wether or not they succeed, i dont know, and i rather not hype it again =) But its a still a really cool thing that they are trying. i can respect that. Many bigger dev and publishers gave up with lesser problems...

No second chance for these fuc*ed up people at studios, especially Sean Murray (and Sony). One of the biggest fraud in gaming history on PAYING customers. You all people can just forgive these all lies? If answer is yes, I do not want to know you in real life.
Guys, never ever preorder games again. THANK YOU

There is nothing wrong with preordering games though..
The mistake is at Hello Games point, not the customer, pre-order or not...

Yes it is big problem. Why people cannot wait until first reviews, gameplay videos?
This is not about HG only. You cannot know what you get at release day.

Honestly that depends from person to person and the way he/she looks at it..

If the developers want to promote or whatever they do, to make pre-orders, then my believe goes to the fact that I buy the pre-order based on what they promise, thought, there could always be something changing before the actual release is out but still, if you look at GTA V they did everything they promised in their pre-order, ive gotten everything when it came out and I can honestly not complain about that pre-order, while for NMS, I did not receive the promised content, which is a bummer but still not my mistake for believing and buying a pre-order, its a form of support for the devs aswell but they cannot just promise things to get more orders, thats basicly misleading the customer and then again its still the devs fault for providing the wrong information and still not the customer..
For me personal its not the problem with waiting for the actual release, but more as a support for the devs and sometimes yes to get that cool extra content you otherwise dont get...

Also, HG made big mistakes and told some lies, but that doesnt mean we cant give them a second chance to allow them to proove they can make this game better and who knows what on the list to do, im not going to defend them caus I was pretty disapointed myself about NMS but I am willing to give them time and chance to make this game to what they promised us, which I hope they will do..
For some that might be easy to do while for others not but a choice you got to make and you cant blame other people for trying..

But then again, this is my perspective of looking at it, thought it might not be yours, which I respect offcourse :D
If my english is a bit off sorry I really tried my best :P

I am just careful about buying brand new games at release day at full price. In last time we got so many perfect examples of broken games, just look for number 1 - Mafia III. I do not know situation today but at release it was pure disaster. Broken physics and graphics, many bugs, crashing, poor optimization. Last point is especially crucial for my and my fellow pc players. I did not buy 300€ graphic card for playing totally unoptimized games that looks like from 2007.
You cannot never know what publishers/devs are gonna release, at what condition. Doesn't matter if it is big company or indie developers.
For instance, I was really exciting about Battlefield 1. So I wait until release, see some gameplay videos (how is fps with my graphic card), reviews. I give it time, a whole month. And two days later I just buy it. As a bonus, I saved 20€ because big sales of black friday. Isn't it great? :)
About Hello games, I don't give them second chance. That's not only "some lies" as you said.> >www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4y1h9i/wheres_the_no_mans_sky_we_were_sold_on_a_big_list/

There's really no point in pre-ordering though. You'll support the developer as much by buying the game just after launch, and if things have gone sour (something that can happen at the best of developers. New management, development issues, publisher issues and so on) you'll not buy a broken game. I've seen developers I trust release duds on several occasions, and for several different reasons. The game will still be there a week after launch, when you know if the game is good or not (or if it's good but with with a but... attached). Better safe than sorry, I would say.

I remember I sold like A LOT of trading cards on the market to get this game on steam D: I spend like an entire night selling cards 1 by 1 manually on market and eventually in the morning time I got it on steam but then I saw so many bugs and missing things I was so disapointed :( I really hope they still come off with some serious updates to make this game better because it has so many potential!!
After all, I got disapointed but I dont hate, I already played some hours on it and I like it thought there could be a lot of things implemented to make it better offcourse!

Lets hope they do some good updates :D

Yeah, maybe they should have just made their space exploration more realistic, one or two planets to explore after flying for a few hours max speed, and most of those having nothing on them except maybe a cool rock or two...

I think Sony is the villain here. I'd be willing to bet they forced the release earlier than Hello wanted to do it.

Maybe I'm delusional here, but I really think this studio put their hearts and souls into the game, and yes, knew it wasn't ready but were pushed by the big money's timeline. You're never going to see them say that though, as long as they want to stay on Sony's good side.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Possibly, it could be a bit of both. Sony clearly rushed Hello Games to get NMS out as soon as possible, but I also think they bit off a little more than they could chew.

I think EA or Bethesda would of struggled to create the vision they had for NMS. I agree Hello never meant to mislead people and they put their all into the game, but all the heart in the world doesn't make up for broken promises.

if only there was much to explore.
All the planet looks the same just slightly recolored and even the monsters are found again and again on multiple planets.
I think it's better to get abzu, a game of pure exploration bliss.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Even if a lot of planets look the same or similar, it doesn't mean you can't explore it... Would you rather have a more realistic space exploration game where it is really 99% just empty space? I get that this isn't for everyone, but I don't see why they should have to make it that much more unrealistic... Maybe a little more so some people will be happier, but while a 3D Starbound would be pretty cool, I like what I've seen of this...

I guess I can see why people that started to get unrealistic ideas can be dissatisfied with this, but a dev could dedicate his life on a game and might still not ever be able to craft it just like he wanted, so I don't see why they should be punished for sharing his ideas... But this is from someone who didn't read every news story and interview leading to the release, I just saw a few talking about it's procedural generation of nearly infinite worlds and being able to name and log your discoveries and such and thought that I would enjoy a game like that.

I've watched a few people play it, but the one I watched for several hours I got sick of because he was quite an idiot... And it also really bugged me that he wouldn't name literally anything he discovered, he'd just log it with its default name... I didn't understand why he was playing it, tbh...

The Foundation Update is here
publié par NMS_News @ 02:43PM on November 27, 2016
Today we’re very excited to bring you the Foundation Update (Update 1.1)[www.no-mans-sky.com].

We’d recommend you check out our full Patch Notes[www.no-mans-sky.com] - but here’s a summary of what you’ll come across in this update.

First of all we’ve introduced three game modes. Normal mode is the original, chilled exploration experience you’re used to. Creative mode allows players to explore the infinite universe without limits, while also allowing them to craft to their heart’s content without any resource requirements. Survival mode pits players against a more brutal environment where merely staying alive is a challenge in itself.

Secondly the Foundation Update brings base building to the game, giving players the opportunity to claim a home planet where they can start building and decorating their very own, fully customisable outpost. When you’re ready, recruit alien lifeforms from Space Stations and task them with researching new technologies in your base. Farming, Science, Weapons and Technology specialists are available for hire.

A new farming system also allows you to plant and grow biome specific crops either inside your base (using Hydroponic Labs) or outside in the right environment.

New equipment is also on hand to aid explorers as they continue to explore distant planets. This equipment can be deployed in the field and includes save points (essential for survival mode), waypoints (to permanently mark your position), automated mining harvesters and Signal Scanners (which can find uninhabited bases and more).

The third key update in Foundation are Freighters. These enormous ships can be found cruising through space and, upon boarding, players can speak to the Freighter's captain to purchase the ship at great expense. Freighters can be summoned at will by explorers, and come with huge expandable cargo holds which are ideal for storing and transporting large quantities of valuable resources. Vessels can be customised in the base building section, allowing role specialisation.

i have received just now this

its NOT 'cool that theyre trying'. the devs didnt all come away from this as millionaires.. they still want to have jobs, and they know if they dont fix this, hello games will be a toxic studio forever, and their own reputations will be tarnished. They dont care about you (gamers, customers, whatever), or their game, they only care about trying to salvage their reputations.

Stop trying to give them credit for them following their own selfish goals... i just dont get what NMS fanboy defenders get out of this. Shouting out about how awesome hello games is, doesnt benefit you or gaming in any way, if anything by defending them and saying its cool for them to behave this way, it just means more devs and publishers think they can get away with more shoddy releases in the future which hurts us all as gamers.

They dont care about you (gamers, customers, whatever), or their game, they only care about trying to salvage their reputations.

I'm curious how you know that, because in most every interview I've ever seen with a developer for any game, they explain how passionate they are for their game, and how much love and passion went into it. Speaking as an artist and musician myself, I find it extremely difficult to believe they don't care (at the very least) about their game, the product of their craft, and are only after the paycheck.

It's called promotion, no ones going to say 'yeah we're just in it for the money' - of course theyre going to puff up their games and themselves saying how much they care about what theyre doing and how much effort theyre putting in, just to drum up preorder sales... you'll see the same 'we care so much' speech from anyone working on the latest assembly line games from EA, activision, ubisoft... you name it.

im curious, as an artist and musician yourself, do you value your artistic integrity highly? I'm going to assume that you do, so would you tell flat out lies and half-truths just to drum up business for yourself? I'd like to think that you wouldnt. Hello games arent artists, they've shown themselves to be a ruthless business that will say anything just to make a buck... They played this 'game', hoping that they could weather the storm when their lies caught up to them.. unfortunately they failed to predict how upset many gamers would be, and their scheme blew up in their face and now theyre left in damage control trying to salvage their reputations.

I mean really, can you think of ANY time a 'creator' of something, has made so many outrageous claims about their product, when they had integrity as artists or genuinely cared about those who would eventually have those products based on the 'artists' claims?

No I wouldn't, but you're assuming that this group of game developers (who are artists in their own right) don't value their integrity (edited for clarity sorry), and there's as good a possibility (at least as good as them not caring) that they do care about their game and their fans

I played music for money. I created art for money. I can still say I was passionate about music and passionate about art in general while I made money creating it, and I think it's an unfair assumption to make that the devs at Hello Games are not only not passionate about their game, but don't care about it or the people who play it. Sure, it puts food on their tables, but it's an awful big spoon to swallow saying they're only doing it for monetary reasons. There was a time when art and music put food on my table, too. It doesn't mean I didn't care about the art or the fans.

Perhaps they saw the disappointment in their fans and are perhaps trying to make things right, not for money, not for ego, but simply because they want to continue working on the game they love?

I can tell you this from a personal perspective. When any of the groups I've been in would write a song that received poor fan reception, we'd usually rewrite it or stop rotating it into our set. Those fans probably already thought that song sucked (or that the band sucked), and we didn't have to rewrite it, but often we did, simply because we wanted it to be better. It had nothing to do with money, nothing to do with saving face -- we just wanted to make the best music we possibly could, and maybe .... just maybe ... Hello Games is in that same boat right now.

IMHO they simply fell short of the goals they set for themselves (and no, I'm not saying that's fair to the customer), and they're trying to make things right now.

I dont believe that art and 'profit' are mutually exclusive, and I do not agree that creating art that isn't to other peoples tastes, and then changing it so that it is, is the same thing as what happened here. I still believe the biggest mark against them was not that they fell short or failed in what they tried to do (many artists, especially in game development, reach far and don't quite succeed but we can still respect them for the attempt), it was the lies that were told in the name of misleading the public in order to make preorder sales. It went far beyond 'enthusiasm' or 'ambition', statements were made about things known not to be in the game. This is what I find unacceptable, because it is deceptive and greed driven, and personally I believe that's the exact opposite of art.

My 'assumptions' as to who they are as artists and their mentality and approach to their work, is based purely on the behaviour I have seen from them... the wild dishonesty and deceptive promises, and then the immediate silence that followed launch (because they knew they would be called out on their deception), leaving people who trusted them and bought their game, completely out in the cold.

I can appreciate you have an idealistic view on this, and have an artists kinship that will mean we are very much on two separate sides here. I wont try and convince you any further, and respect your views on the subject.

This is exactly how I see it, as well. I've wanted to develop games for quite some time now, and have had numerous ideas for games I think would be great. However, usually after putting some time into it or even just planning it I begin to think "will others even like this or play it?" It's usually at that point that I start giving up on it or letting it sit or something, probablly mostly cause I get depressed and stuff and doubt myself, partly because I doubt I can reach my ideal game, and another part because I don't want to disappoint potential fans...

At one point I had thought about doing a Kickstarter or something to raise money for professional art/assets for one idea I really liked, but I realized how anything I said in that could and probably would, lead to backers being disappointed in my game because I couldn't live up to my idea.

I'm not mad at them for failing to live up to the ideas they talked about, I think it's kind of cool that they were brave enough to talk about everything they wanted for it, though it makes me sad to see how many people hate them for being so upfront about their ideas. Obviously, they could probably have handled it better when they realized they couldn't live up to their plans, but I figure that at that point they were feeling kind of like how I get and were scared, but knowing they couldn't back down at that point, went ahead with release and stuff.

And if it were in my case, that period of silence would be when I was hiding in my room with all they lights turned off praying that I didn't ruin everything while curled in a ball, crying and thinking how I could end it if it turned out everyone really did want me dead...
But I doubt that's the case, so idk about that...

well i can only speak for myself, i dont care about them, i hate what they represent for an industry (gaming) that i think we all love. No one who lies and manipulates gamers just to make a buck should be applauded - if we show them they can get away with that without any form of punishment or negative repercussions, its just going to incite more developers to take us for chumps like hello games did. THATS why the hate exists... not for them specifically, but for what they mean for the gaming industry. THIS is the kind of thing gamers should band together against.. we generally do it for dlc, why shouldnt we do it for BS developers and their lies and full priced half-assed products?

Its great they are trying to add more to the game, and while base building is a great addition to the game my biggest issue with the game was there was no point to it, nothing to do but farm for materials so that you could buy larger capacity equipment so that you could farm more materials.what this game needed more was some enemy's or the ability to play with other people so that there was a point to playing the game,
no mans sky felt like if you were to build a huge map for like fallout4 and then removed all the enemy's and all the quests at that point there is no point in playing it while it would look great there would be no reason to be there.
