Hello my fellow peeps!

What do you play when you're bored? What's your "pick-up whenever" game and continue playing?

Earlier, when I get bored or just want to relax, I would fire up the trusty Euro Truck Simulator 2 and play that, but now I'm stuck on what to play without thinking where I left off.

Thanks for the input =)

I used to play Path of Exile but rather got bored real quick. Do they still add new things to it?

New 3-month league starting in less than 24 hours :D
Played a whole lot, I think I'll stop now due to work.

As Schnapser29 said, they rebalance and add new things constantly.

I can confirm that. They keep working on the game, adding content and introducing new leagues.
That I stopped playing it was not because it's boring, but because on second playthrough it got very hard and unforgiving.
I probably shouldn't try to play it as a single-player game all the time :)

They got rid of the second playthrough a couple years ago (patch 3.0 I think), now there's 10 acts. The campaign is pretty easy, at least so long as you don't stand in boss attacks.

I've played before they added the "new" act system, yes.
But I also was refering to the acts, meaning the 2nd act with "playthrough". Sorry if that was unclear.
While I liked how they reworked the quests to make the 2nd run different from the first, it felt significantly harder and I couldn't deal with many of the things the game would throw at me. Like the one mermaid scene where water floods from all directions and kills you? No plan whatsoever >.<

Well you're not supposed to stand in the water 😁

Your problem might have been not capping your fire/cold/lightning resistances, that's pretty important starting in act 6. Brine King deals a lot of lightning damage but he's super easy if you have good resists and don't stand in obvious attacks.

Eurotruck 2, or Fallout 4. They seem like the 2 games I end up playing when I'm just trying to relax and not get into something new or complicated

edit: Also Banished. Once you figure out the learning curve of balancing town growth with resources, it gets really relaxing too

i've got many =P
lots of puzzle games, picross.. games like tetris.. quiz games.. music games! songpop on my phone =P
plus, definitely, tactical games like fire emblem, final fantasy tactics, lord of the rings the 3rd age and so on.. infinite replayability!
there are so many awesome games that you can play just for ten minutes and I still do this after 20 years =P
I often pick them up on kongregate (I'm about to reach level 67 there!) or on emulators since I've got them all physically (and legally, most of them bought used on ebay especially for what concerns gba titles) but my nintendo ds broke years ago =P

Oh man, you play a lot of things. I have a couple of ROMs I play on the phone from time to time and a whole library on my laptop but I get bored real fast.. I'm trying to play the Zelda games for the DS currently, have you finished them?

this is something that really gets me in trouble 100% of the times..
I was born in the '80s and I grew up with JRPGs apart from lots of other games, puzzles, fighting games, platformers..
and I tried every Zelda game I could afford or see..
but the truth is that I have never managed to like even just a single title of Zelda on any kind of platform =\ I love RPGs, I also like action rpgs if they're good, but the Zelda games, since the NES/SNES era.. just.. bores me to death after 10 minutes, I tried half a dozen of Zelda games or maybe more, and I couldn't go beyond the first hour.. so I can't recommend them, although I know they're praised by everyone as the best games ever made xD
fortunately the DS has lots of awesome rpgs too, especially if you add also GBA roms =P final fantasy games, riviera, the mario games, pokemon, chrono trigger rebooted, fire emblem, golden sun.. there are so many awesome games.. but zelda.. no thanks for me xD

the only Zelda I could get into was the first one. the others just don't do it for me. Like you, I get bored too quickly. The closest I ever got was Okami, which I probably got about three-quarter, before giving up

Since you are rather familiar with JRPG games, you might already know the two, but just in case you don't:

  • Lufia 2 - Rise of the Sinistrals
  • Tales of Phantasia

Both have some decent puzzles in them.
I don't remember if Secret of Mana 2 / Seiken Densetsu 3 had any puzzles. Probably not. The biggest asset of the game is the complex story with the many different factions, endings and character class changes.

I guess I haven't been bored in a while, since I had a hard time thinking of an answer.
Games, where you don't have to remember where you left off, would be the first choice, yes.
In earlier days I used to play games like World of Tanks or Crossout, because once you had figured the basics, you could just resume anytime. That was true for some time, but of course they kept adding and changing stuff until I felt like I didn't know much of it anymore.

"Death road to Canada" should work. Not too long - can be finished within about 2 hours and it's random enough to keep replay interesting. In theory same goes for "Faster than Light", but Death road to Canada feels more interactive.

There's that. It's as complex as you let it be....but it doesn't have to be crazy either. Or you can just download other people's creations and be amazed.

Fez is awesome and timeless. If you're into rogue-likes, there's Rogue Legacy.

It's a good problem to have that there's just so many good games in the world.

Is that the game where you keep dying over and over again until you finally beat the level and then rinse repeat?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sort of yeah. There's several floors to go through, and the more times you beat the game, the more unlockables you get, opens new floors and new bosses.

All kinds of items and trinkets, but it's full of death. It's a very fun game if you're into twin stick shooters and punishing gameplay.

Over both platforms (ps4+pc) I've probably logged over 1200 hours. And I'm still not done.

I sometimes play the idle RPG, Merchant, as well

How about Creativerse then? I haven't played minecraft, but from what I know Creativerse should be less complex and easier to get into.
It's very relaxing. Maybe a bit on the easy side as well, unless you dig down to the lowest level and build your base in front of the strongest monsters.

try again with modpacks (search FTB). tech mods, magic, agriculture, quests, it turns into a completely different game.
vanilla minecraft bores me after ~30 hours, with mods it can last months.

Halo Online, been playing it for years and I'm as addicted to it as I was with H3 in its prime. I used to play Rocket League a ridiculous amount too but have been less and less interested in it lately...I'm still relatively decent stuck at champ 1 the last couple seasons but I can't find the motivation to keep up with anything anymore

Wasn't Halo Online cancelled?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, well technically yes Halo Online was originally a cancelled Russian free-to-play game, but no not exactly. I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot if you're any kind of Halo fan, if you (discreetly) ask the right people it's very easy to get a safe download link as well as help getting it set up quick :)

The games devs have been asked officially on the record to halt development but the servers are P2P and aren't going anywhere, there's a guy who owns a server farm that keeps the official servers running for the heck of it and another hosting quality servers with its own rank system and website. Anybody can start a custom lobby themselves too if they want. Eldewrito (the community made mod) can still be downloaded from the main site, but MS23 (essentially the game itself with Microsoft's assets) can't be hosted without asking for trouble. It can still be torrented (with a VPN) or downloaded safely from a privately shared Google Drive link and such if you know somebody, either coincidentally on a forum or something or the Halo Online discord.

Wall of text with more detail on what happened: The Eldewrito devs had been working on and updating the game for years, the latest and last update was by far the biggest though. They spent countless hours of their free-time for well over a year adding a TON of features to the latest version like advanced forge / custom games, dual wielding, 'ranks', more server hosting options and more. Within the HO community itself it was talked about and hyped up heavily the whole time .6 was being worked on, and when the trailer for the .6 update was posted on Reddit it quickly hit the front page of nearly every gaming subreddit and made the headlines on a bunch of game journalism sites like Kotaku. Everybody was promoting the shit out of it and nobody thought Microsoft would actually do anything but it got such an overwhelming amount of exposure that Microsoft had to do something or they could lose their IP if they didn't protect it. There was never even a C&D though, the devs were told in private to halt development and this statement was released by 343, which started all the rumors that Microsoft killed Halo Online for good. It's not dead in the slightest, just severely stunted.

Ah, sorry. They are all mods or missions for Arma 3.
KOTH = Multiplayer mission King of the Hill
BR = the workshop mod Player Unknown's Battle Royale
the Singleplayer missions:
Bounty Hunter (Malden) is a workshop mission by grandelemental
B.R.S.E.= Battle Royale Singleplayer Experience, a Workshop mission by gtaboncer
Pilgrimage is a non-workshop singleplayer mission from Armaholics.

Did that help? I hope it did. i can also provide links if you would prefer that.
