How about keep the price but retroactively add DRM and anti-cheat/anti-tamper to single-player games? coughCapcomcough

if they really wanna breathe some life into the sales of these games, they need to put in some effort and make steam achievements for these. i would 100% be sold on buying them if they had achievements.
they are some of my fav games ever, but ive played them so much i have no need for them on steam. now if they dropped achievements it would be like breathing new life into the games and i would be so happy to relive my favorite games just to earn the ability to say i 100%'d them

I hope one day they can add Command & Conquer: Generals and Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour to Steam.

The chance of it happening is probably very low, but... A few years ago EA linked steam appids for many of their older titles, including Command & Conquer games. For example:
Command & Conquer Generals and Zero Hour

Notice: WINDOWS 7 USERS: To ensure proper functionality, you must disable User Account Control ("UAC") via the Windows Control Panel before launching the game.
WE ARE STILL HERE!!!!!!

Yeah, I know it's those security pop-up thingies, but what does it do that interferes with games on Win7?

With Windows XP, you would typically only install software to the Program Files folder. Said software would then either store its configuration files alongside the program files or in the user folders, with the assumption that those files could be freely modified at any point by the software.
Windows Vista (which 7 is based on) changed the model to say 'Software files go in Program Files, configuration goes into Program Data', which requires you to address different folders in your code. Software written for Windows XP or earlier won't deal with this change, so Microsoft built an Windows 2000/XP compatibility layer into the code that allowed software to behave as if it was running 'as' Windows XP. The OS Security system then allows the software to write to Program Files.
The warning on the Steam page likely only addresses Windows 7 because Vista wasn't a popular product.

Does that mean that the UAC doesn't allow Steam/games to write to Program Files? 🤔
Thank you for the detailed answer!

The folder is protected, so the game would need to be elevated every time it is opened.

Was almost waiting for this one. 😆
I wonder what the deleted comment was.

It was a Google link to what this abbreviation stands for. But I realised it bumped the thread with something off-topic, so I deleted it.

So does that make it okay for them to overcharge us?
Regional pricing is supposed to give fair prices to different countries depending on their financial status. Even keeping the same price as the US would suck, but it'd at least be somewhat fair.

I'm from a central European country, where the median wages are 1/3 of the German and other western europian countries' wages, but still we have to pay the same price as the Western part of EU.,, So I think you're still in a better position ;)

Happy cakeday!
Not sure if I should even mention C&C4. It seems they tried making it purchasable again on Steam, but messed something up.
If someone wants to purchase it despite the bad rating, you can add it to Steam's shopping cart using one of these methods:
SteamDB: Go to https://steamdb.info/sub/4066/ and click "Add to Cart" (requires extension).
JavaScript:
addToCart(4066);
addToCart(4066);
but don't hit Enter yet. Now manually type javascript:
in front and press Return.In both cases, Steam shows an error in the cart, but the "Continue to payment" button works.
It's a bit tricky to get the game to work though. For some it didn't work at all. See discussions here:

C&C4 aside, EA has been mostly respectful of the Command and Conquer series, which says a lot about them.

Well, for those of you wondering, if you go on the C&C Red Alert 3 page for example, in the "More from Command & Conquer* carousel there is a new card for C&C Franchise. So it appears they are simply doing a rebundle to sell those game together for whatever the full price is.

For those on android or without steamdb extension who want to buy Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight, you go here on chrome mobile: https://store.steampowered.com/sub/4066
Then type in the address bar: javascript:addToCart(4066);
Then continue to payment even if it shows an error and you can obtain it.

EA just added the Command & Conquer™ The Ultimate Collection. They're still adding games to it, so don't rush buying. For now at least, it's only possible to buy the entire collection, not individual titles.
Comment has been collapsed.
if they adding games-u will get more if its the same sub-id for bundle i think

The Ultimate Collection has always been seventeen games, though, but I’ll be happy if they add more games to the bundle. And you’re right. Currently, you can’t buy the games separately, but there seems to be a way.

only way they can make sure people have to buy C&C 4 if they want any of the actually good games in the bundle

Not sure if it's a "deal" case exactly, but C&C3 with addon, as well as RA3 with addon got reduced prices. Current prices now are about 1/7th of base price from yesterday. This discount is not stated as a discount, but as a new price tag. They were cheaper only once, last year, when they were put on 90% discount.
