I appreciate the chance no matter how many entries. Someone is paying out their pocket to gift these games. There shouldn't be a limit as everyone deserves to have a fair chance late or not.

Maybe this could work, only if the GA creator decides how many people can enter though.

Autojoiners already get banned, so I don't see the point of the argument.
Even if someone used an autojoiner, they'd probably be intelligent enough to target giveaways with the lowest entries, so they'd actually be the last people to be hurt by an arbitrary limit.

Banning people from giveaways just so you could have a better chance isn't fair, either you win or you don't. The amount doesn't matter.
You will win a 3000 entry giveaway someday. When? Probably once you're closer to 3000 giveaways entered. Most people get their first win once they're closer to 1000 giveaways entered. The road until then may appear empty, but we're still speaking about free games here. Your time will come, everyone wins something. Just don't become impatient and enter giveaways you don't want to win.
Also, there are plenty of giveaways with 50 or 500 or 1000 entries anyway. Just engage in the community and become a part of a group.

The first game I won here had 8k entries. Clearly I am a unicorn and Must! Be! Stopped!

Limited to a pre-determined number of clicks, you say?

<enter>

...
GA creator: "Hm. I set it to allow 3000 clicks, but for some reason I only got 30 entries..."
I imagine something to repeatedly click on ad links was one of the first cheat / fraud tools ever made for the Web.

i would say yes(giving an option to person who makes the ga) if there wasn't auto entry scripts etc.

Three weeks and 272 entries. I'm guessing you are only entering wishlisted and AAA games. Try entering other kinds of games because those are going to be the hardest to win. It takes time. That and try joining Unlucky 7. A group for people that can help new users win up to their allotted 7 games.

What GAs are you talking about?
Edit: I mean I can imagine some GA creators wanting to limit the entries but they already have tools for that like levels, invite-only etc

Dude, my direct reply with some simple conclusions is below. It really isn't that difficult to find.
And if you should find out in the near future what blacklists are and wonder why your numbers skyrocketed, go back to this dialogue and it'll explain at least one of those.

Maybe you should mind your own business ? Their comments are pretty mild, I don't see any reasons to step in.

Yeah, or look for discussions with hard puzzles...those tend to have lesser entries :P
Also, the more you give, the higher your level, the higher your level, the chance to enter giveaway with a higher level required, which tend to be less populous...or there are even those with the sgtools to make sure those who can enter have a decent Sent/Won ratio

Hmm... Interesting idea to give giveaway creators the option to do that. I can think of a few reason this could be a bad idea though, including the possibility of bots auto-entering these before real humans, people entering these just because they're not sure they want to enter but if they don't they might not get a chance (then ending up winning something they didn't want), etc... But an interesting idea I haven't seen suggested in the past nevertheless.

SGT already has that option, though it's restricted by the fact that some users don't enter the giveaway and SGT can't check against entries, only against SGT filter passes. I assume cg could set up a proper api call for the entries so that SGT could reference it properly.
(Since cg seems to intentionally avoid adding such filters to the core site, and were he to add user-requested filters to the core site, this'd be a weird one to start with.)

If anything, cg should make it possible using default SG mechanics, not waste time to improve third-party tool achieving that, especially because just implementing it is far easier than writing and maintaining proper API endpoint. Takes one extra database column for giveaway, option to input a number there, and one extra 3-lines if
in making entry function. 5 minutes of work, including coffee break.

Quite illogical, as pretty much nothing would change. Sure, if you manage to enter the giveaway for a game you want, your chances would increase. But you'd also get far fewer opportunities to enter such giveaways, before they reach their cap.
Add bots entering faster than humans and you'd actually have far fewer chances.

Well at 15 games... I gotta challenge you...
Prove it.

There is a difference between forcing and giving a challenge. Didn't think you would lol. I don't want your gifts, I never said that. I was challenging you to make a giveaway for other people on the site.
Waits to see that one day hahahaha.

You can be generous, but at the moment it isn't showing. Not that you can't stay here without gifting, but this looks bad.

The existing points system is technically a limit on the amount of entries, you can only enter as many giveaways as your available points allow you to, and they reload at a fairly slow rate.
There are many ways to improve your odds : Join private giveaways, solve puzzles, join groups, whitelists, higher level giveaways, seek the ones with a short duration or enter for less popular games...etc. It's not rocket science, really, it just takes some effort on your part. And yes, winning a giveaway with thousands of entries may seem like a far-fetched possibility, but someday it might be you, everyone has an equal chance to win the game.

While I agree the point system is the ideal cap on entries, I disagree that it is a slow reload. You get 6pts every 15 minutes, which means in an hour you have enough to generally enter a ga every waking hour (400 pt cap means 16.67 hours). With that refresh rate combined with an extended contest time by the giver, entries will naturally pile up. If we instead lower the point refresh rate, then there's a better chance of forcing people maybe to choose what ga that really want to participate in and thus reduce the general number of entries, except for higher profile games. To incentivize givers, they can receive a bonus set of points after collecting feedback for their own ga completed that maybe doesn't count against the cap.

I didn't win a game until I gave one away first. And no that's not a requirement, but if you really want good odds of winning games, the best way of doing that is getting in a good group that has requirements where all members give a set number of games away in a set amount of time --- say for example everyone has to do one GA per month of something decent --- and those GA's will have a much lower number of entries because they will be for the group only.
If however you don't want to have to give games away and just want free games then Humble Bundle, GOG, Indie Gala, even Steam itself often gives games away for free that you will own forever,

Checking my wins, here's some insight
-get on someone whitelist, (I won a 1/39 giveaway)
-access private giveaways, either from discussion or puzzle (typically, those have had under 200 entries, at least those I won :P)
-access giveaway with a higher required base level (typically those I won tended to average having between 200 and 600 entries)
-get lucky ? I did win a few of those with above 1k entries, with my "high score" being 1/6961, for "This War Of Mine", Public no level required giveaway...

Entries on the 7th day aren't late, they're on time. Everyone entering during the giveaway period is on time.
If you don't want people to enter to win on the 7th day, the solution is simple: make it a 6 day giveaway - then people trying to enter on the 7th day would be late and would be excluded. A cap on the number of entries does not necessarily prevent people from entering on the 7th day, so what you suggest actually opens the door to people entering later than if you just made the giveaway run for 6 days.

Heh, I have had a giveaway where the very first entry won, also one where the last one who entered around 5 seconds before deadline did. It is a more or less evenly spread randomness that makes everyone's entry the same. It is as close to being fair as possible.
Unless it is zelghadis. He just wins everything he enters for.

Less entries to have a higher chance to win huh? Take your time, you have currently given nothing to this site so don't get impatient you don't have hundreds of wins already. Winning giveaways takes time, especially if you stay at level 0 and don't enter enough of them.
