Bump! I started Icewind Dale but never got really far into it, but it's still on my list to pick it up again (together with Planescape Torment). I guess the only D&D game I've played was Neverwinter Nights (do SW: KOTOR counts?)
Aquaria has a great soundtrack by the way!

I loved Icewind Dale 2 back in the day. Did you see the unofficial "Enhanced Edition" that some modders are putting together? Looks incredible, and not far off now - when that's finally released I'll be giving it another try!

Wow, wasn't aware of that, thanks for letting me know! This will probably draw me back to the game, I will need to find the CD though...

Actually, your comment reminded me of Neverwinter Nights's soundtrack. Another one that is very memorable for me...

Thank you for the train. The track is very good and soothing. I enjoyed it.
A couple of my all time favorite songs from games are Snake Eater from MGS 3 and Cosmo Canyon from FF7.
MGS 1 has another fantastic song called The Best is Yet to come.
Of course there are many other great ones too but I highly recommend those 3.

I have not played any game of the Icewind dale saga, I owe it to myself. From what I see there are 3 games but on steam you can only get the EE of the first game.
Regarding the soundtracks, really when there is love in this section it is impressive that everything changes. Generally, role-playing games usually have very good soundtracks!

Bump, approx. 36 hours still remaining
Edit: Replaced link for IWD2 to wiki page, wasn't aware it was pointing to IWD(1) Enhanced Edition. Also Added link for the IWD2 Enhanced Edition dev page (:

Thanks for the giveaways. I love IE D&D games, my favorite is Baldur's Gate 2, though. Can't say much about music in them, I don't listen to such music except when playing a game.

AKA Targos (honestly, you should listen to this, you will not regret it)
I have played some Everhood in the last few days (weird, satisfying, fun, in that exact order), and it made me think about the close relations music has with gaming.
The soundtrack of a game can change the experience I have with the game, for better or for worse.
I can quite easily say the track above, from Icewind Dale 2, is my favorite piece of music from games of all times. It could be just simple nostalgia, who knows. For me, that chilling and deep sliver of beauty was all I needed to be fully emmersed in the cold north of the Forgotten Realms. It what had me so connected to that game, even though I never finished it.
What are your thoughts? Did you play Icewind Dale 2? Did you fall in love with the soundtrack or this track specifically?
Here are some GAs as a token of my gratitude, for spending some time reading my thoughts:
warhammer-40000-gladius-relics-of-war (LVL4)
paradise-lost (LVL5) (? = fourth letter of the starting town in IWD2, lowercase)
per-aspera (LVL5, WARNING! Possible used key, please let me delete if key has issues) (? = fourth letter of the game I played in the last few days, lowercase)
And a small train for LVL1!
ππππ (? = number of towns in Icewind Dale divided by 2 minus 1)
EDIT: Check this out, the people at beamdog are working on an enhanced edition for IWD2!
