Wasn't there an old Gold Box D&D game that would destroy your computer? An Amiga release, maybe?
Edit: I may be thinking of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (which isn't a Gold Box game, but a sequel to one)

Ah, damn. You beat me to it. And yes, it was Ruins of Myth Drannor. You HAD to use an external uninstaller they made to uninstall otherwise it could take your windows with it.
And they broke the game more and more with each 'fix' they released.

Actually, it wasn't that bad. One of the first AD&D games I was able to play since I didn't have a DOS pc.

I'm sorry that you had such an introduction. I mean, I'm glad you enjoyed it, but it was pretty bad - particularly on release with tons of bugs and a poor implementation of D&D 3rd Edition (probably because they converted it to 3rd Edition half way through production).
And when you consider that it was following a year after Baldur's Gate II... After the wonder that was BGII, Ruins of Myth Drannor was a huge disappointment.

Actually, if you installed the game on the original installation path ( C/: ), you were safe. It was only if you installed on a different path that it would pooch your drive.

No idea. But there was an external uninstaller. Look for it online.

The uninstaller for Deltarune and Myth II v1.0 just delete the whole folder that the uninstaller is in, so it's only an issue if you install it somewhere stupid. Don't install games into C:\ or C:\Windows or C:\Program Files.
And if by some freak chance you have Myth II and somehow have v1.0 (which would be strange, as they did a recall of all the physical copies) and you failed to update it with the v1.1 patch and you installed it somewhere stupid, then you should really patch it - the patch has been out for 20+ years, it's about time. ;)
But, seriously, don't install games to system locations or anywhere else stupid. I realize some people do this (I don't know why), but it really should be common sense not to.
I recommend having a separate Games folder where you install all your games. So you'll have something like \Games\Steam, \Games\GOG, \Games\Uplay, \Games\Origin, \Games\Epic, \Games\Blizzard, \Games\Oculus Apps, etc. All your games are in one place, and you know exactly where to go to look for them, and they're not going to affect anything else.

A lot of the time, I just install games to wherever it defaults to cause I just can't be bothered [the default happening to be the C: drive..]
in some worse cases, it will ONLY let me install it to the C: drive or whatever random folder. Luckily I've never had any issues with my hard drive being screwed up personally, with Deltarune being the only game that could have done it [but I still have it installed anyway so ye]
Also, I kind of prefer when games are just in .zip folders that you can unzip and be done with tbh
Never owned Myth II at all also, I just happened to see it was a thing when browsing Internet Archive
and it was the game that made me want to create this forum post actually

There are games that install to C:\ by default?
I mean, I've seen some really old games from decades ago that would make a folder for the game in C:\, but none that would install to C:\ directly - that would just be a mess.
The standard default now is C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) with a separate folder for each game or studio, so that everything is self contained. But I'm not sure how many games even have standalone installers now - the last physical PC game I bought just had a Steam key, and the ones from Humble don't require an installer, just unzip to a folder of your choice.

i got once an issue under XP with retail cd version of Atlantis II which destroy the drive autorun of windows...

Most probably, I guess it can depend of the version/Publisher too.
It was if I remember correctly, a DVD case version for Win95/XP (french or EU version) (not the 1st big box version, nor the latest for vista/win7)...

Me: "It's probably some obscure games no ones really heard of that someone downloaded and it just destroyed everything"
Deltarune
Me, on a computer with copious amounts of unbacked up music, images, and my artwork: intensely and quickly deletes deltarune
Glad I never installed it :' )

So something that comes up every blue moon is that a game can end up deleting your entire hard drive and/or screwing with it in some way. I've never really seen a "master list" for games that do this so I kind of figured I would make one myself [with anyone reading's help of course]
So ye, this is a list of games that will screw up your hard drive if you uninstall it for one reason or another [not counting things like Lose/Lose which are designed to delete files]
List of Games:
-Deltarune [Original Release] [Source: https://twitter.com/tobyfox/status/1057646559695986688?lang=en ]
-Myth II: Soulblighter [v1.0] [Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth_II:_Soulblighter#Uninstall_bug ]
-Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor [Original Release] [Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pool_of_Radiance:_Ruins_of_Myth_Drannor#Critical_reviews ]
Feel free to comment about any games that do things like this as I said [preferably with a source]
