best way to get gems?

All the cheap items with good Gems output have increased in price, because everyone else wanted to do what you want to do. You are out of luck.

Most of them were taken already.
If you are lucky you might find 80 gem items at $0.07 or 100 gem items at 0.08, but don't count on finding too many of those at this point.
So you are better off buying gem sacks.

Anyway, even if you get gems now, the prices will be too expensive since its the last auctions right now... only 25-30 games of each left so people who really want it don't care the amount they spend on it. Personally, i traded my tradeable games for some gems and got pretty great deals with that .. or 6 tf2 keys for 14k gems :P (got that yesterday)

Except for the really big titles I've seen the exact opposite happen. People are selling off their gems and bids are getting lower on the same games. I expect the gem value to crash down back to Earth in the next 12 hours. You can sell them now or lose over half their value by using them for booster packs. The panic will hit soon enough. Unless I missed something, gems will be off the market for sale as soon as the auction ends but you keep whatever doesn't get sold. Idk, maybe people don't know that.
