EDIT: Thank you for your quick feedback everyone! Blocked the scammer right away.

EDIT: Same scammer as in this thread, confirmed with Mohsin
http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Imcvz/just-got-scammed-100-worth-of-games

Hello everyone,

I've been doing trades now and then on Steam and I always managed to stay clear of any scams. I always do the background work on profiles, check rep threads, but I've come across a situation I really can't decide whether I risk it or not. I would like to ask your experience on this:

Basically I'm doing a Steam Gift - PayPal trade / Game trade, here's the rundown:

  • Buyer wants the game to join his friends in the game, but can't pay with PayPal
  • Claims his parents are monitoring his internet traffic, so he can't purchase anything online. Probably a minor.
  • Claims he has a Mastercard gift card he received for his birthday, but he can't use it to shop online because his parents will know.
  • We talk about alternatives, I would be happy to trade the game for another game of the same value in $$$.
  • He suggests he gives me the gift card info, so I can go and buy the games I want and I give him the Steam Gift.

Now this would be a huge leap of faith, especially on the internet.

I lookup his Steam profile

  • 1 year old account, level 2
  • under 15 games
  • ZERO hours played
  • not registered on any rep sites, steamrep shows account is ban free, no comments on Steam profile
  • I think he started adding friends just recently, under 5 friends
  • uses trading info after his Steam name. eg: "Username [H] Game [W] Keys", at least he has the game in his inventory.

Is this a scam? It sounds nice but damn it looks dodgy as hell.

If you have any uncertainties, its best to avoid it to be safe. No deal done is better than being potentially scammed

Not if you keep on walking, there is just to much that could go wrong and for all you know the so called pre paid could be a stolen number.

He gets a gift card for his bday but can not use it online, seems kinda fishy alone. If they are watching, would they not see that he did this?

Anyhow i would not even do it

that's enough reason not to trade with him, also one guy was already scammed by him.

Can't pay with PayPal.
Can't purchase anything online
Can't use gifted card to shop online.

After the second one I would stop the conversation. When somebody is having this many excuses to do only the one method they want is always a scam. Steam, real life, doesn't matter. The oldest and stupidest, yet one of the most successful scam methods.

Now wait a second, I'm not 100% sure, but I recognize this profile pic. Cloudy was on the friend list of this scammer. I knew the scammer had more friends yesterday. This is the same f*cking scammer that got Cloudy. I need to confirm this with him but he's offline.

(Cloudy -> Mohsin's Steam name)

I'm glad the community warned you. Lots of red flags, next time, back off even if you only have one red flag, its enough.

Of course it's a scam, even if he couldn't use his gift card home he could do it to a friend's place. And how did he get a mastercard gift for his birthday if his parents don't even know it.

Just move on to another scam.

Don't do it. Probably stolen credit card and if you use it then your steam account might get banned or at least the games bought with it will be removed but probably you be held responsible and be banned.
