I'm thinking about getting a steering wheel for my racing games (NFS, Dirt, Grid, GT5, etc) but I've never bought one before so I thought you guys could help me. I'm basically looking for a wheel that's compatible with PC and PS3 (but mostly PC), that has force feedback and that is pretty good quality.
I've seen this on sale for about 75€ which would probably be my budget (approx. 99$), does anybody know if this is any good ? is there anything better at this price range ? Also, I'd like to know if an actual gear box is more fun than the gear changers on the back of the one I showed.
Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me. :)

I always preferred controllers to wheels personally. I don't think I ever got to use a high quality one though so my opinion might have no merit.

Yeah I usually played my racing games with a controller on the PS3, but now that I have a PC I thought it might be better to have a wheel, or at least better than using the keyboard x)I'm still not sure about it though so everyone's opinion matters to me

It depends on what type of racing games you intend to play. For arcadey ones, a controller will usually do the job well, and in some cases it does it better, but for simulation-style games, a wheel is far superior.

Would it not be worth it for games like shift and dirt 3 ? I know they aren't actual sims but they seem less arcadey than the others, have you got any suggestions for good sims or games that are fun to play with a wheel ?

Said it before, but listen to dirtySanchez. He knows what he's talking about in regard to racing games/peripherals.

Thanks for the suggestions ! Simbin games seem interesting, I'll look into them, I noticed they had a free to play game, do you know if it's as good as the others ? I'm not a big fan of subscription based games so I'm not so sure about rfactor and iracing but i'll check them out, project cars however does look like a very good game.
What wheel do you use ?

Yeah that's the one I meant, and I'd do the same if I had an old wheel ;). Thanks for all the advice and suggestions you've given to me, I've just got to decide whether to buy it or not now.

Better Save a little more and get a Logitech Driving Force GT. (~140$) You'll have a lot more fun with a proper steering wheel and not just a piece of plastic like that thrustmaster imo. Everyone I've known to own one of those Thrustmaster wheels complained about it and replaced it after fairly short time with a Logitech or Fanatec.

Thanks for the advice ! The problem wouldn't be saving more, I would have enough to buy the driving force GT, but I don't know if I'd want to pay that much for a wheel, do you know what the people complained about on the thrustmaster wheels ?

Their build quality is far from great. They break really easily, and the force feedback is atrocious. Just get the driving force GT, it's a much better product.

^ this. Build quality of those things just isn't on par with the Logitech products.

I'm thinking of one too. I want to get a wheel for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Any recommendations? Not the Logitech G series one. Too expensive.

A used Driving Force GT goes for around $80. or so.

I would also recommend Driving Force GT. It's a really great wheel with nice force feedback and 900 degrees rotation. I have played many games (rfactor, pcars, ets, etc.) with it for almost 4 years, and still it's in fine condition ;)
