In the verge of Desuras flaky blinks of life which indicate its soon-to-be demise i created another tool to backup your data. This specific one concentrates on the MCF files which the offial client uses too. The catch with the installers is that some publishers left them outdated and stale and published the latest version via client. This specifically happened to me with their Armada 2565 release which came in woeful state to me, so the client version was the only option for me. The MCF file itself is a compressed archive which contains the full game - pretty similiar to the NCF archive system Steam uses. The MCFs would need the Desura client to be installed so thats the plan to do next: create a self-contained micro edition of Desura's backend so you can install your games from a local source (harddrive, cloud even) - to be used in conjunction with the stored MCF's which DesuraBackup fetches. DesuraBackup happily runs on a Linux server / desktop, on Windows and should work on Mac too (which is unsupported though you need to know some bits to start it).
Note that this tool does not (as of now) fetches keys so you'd better to use some of the Greasemonkey scripts floating around the net and you definitedly should check out DesuraDumper. Also keep in mind that you likely need to change your DNS to be able to actually reach Desura. Although their API server occasionally worked for me without patching. The other SG thread should help you to do.
