Some months ago, everyone was buying/saving these cards to sell them later. This was the first limited set (stopped dropping after the Summer Sale 2013), and people saw it as an easy profit. Now when you look at the market, it's obvious that this theory has failed - not only because the price is very low, but there is no enough demand for these cards. People simply don't need them anymore, so even if it's a limited set, you have to live for 100 years or longer to see any significant change in the price (not the mention the inflation).

I'm just curious, is there anyone who still thinks it's a good idea to hold on to these cards? Because I have a lot of them in my inventory, about to sell them for the current market price, but I'm afraid I'll regret it later. Of course it's not serious money, I just don't want to feel like Walter White (if you know what I mean). So everyone who thought it was a smart thing to hoard these cards, please share your thoughts! Thanks! ^^

P.S. I remember a guy from SG who invested ~500€ into this. Can't tell how I would feel now in his place.

UPDATE: Maybe it wasn't clear enough, but I don't want to trade these cards, so please stop adding me/writing me with trade offers.

I have around 65 foil cards from the era. Hope it could bring some cash in. Though I'm not happy with the graphs, doesn't look promising. Constantly fighting with a wish to craft 5 level foil badge. I think I could manage a few weeks more, maybe a month. I'm not sure I can trust myself on that...
Should wait? I don't know now...
Any one else here who sits on a pile of foil cards like meh?

It would be cool if there was 5 levels for foils too.

The first (of many) problems the hoarders are going to run into is lack of awareness. Steam won't be advertising the old set anymore, since they'll have moved on to new decks or new projects. And it's not like there's an empty deck in people's inventory. Nor is it a wearable badge for others to see. So, the only people there to inform potential new customers of the old deck are the hoarders themselves. Which means an expense of time and/or money for advertising.

There's always a chance in 20 years newcomers will see "ho, summer sale 2033 badges, nice, I wonder what's the oldest one; ho, from 2013, let's craft it and pretend I'm older or something :P".

trying to game the market can be tricky. Trading cards aren't a very good long term investment in general but if you can get cards that aren't made anymore like the summer cards at a low enough price you might be able to make a small profit. Usually I just go for the quick easy profit instead of the long term since the market can be very unstable at times.

I remember when this happened with the 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition Corvette.

As time goes by, these things simply become curios, of interest to a diminishing market, most of whom have already fillws their boots with as many Summer Cards as their inventories will hold.

Just about anyone who wanted one got one at the time, since they were so readily available and comparatively inexpensive. Unless something changes, and these become the digital equivalent of Wonka's Golden Tickets, there is such a ludicrous surplus of them that it will be a buyer's market from now until Doomsday.

Nothing is worth money when everyone knows about it. A collector might want it a few years down the road, but so many people thought it was easy money so they bought them and hoarded them. It will take a long time for them to get value back.

I currently have like 3 or 4 pages of them. I could sell them for a penny each and it would still be a profit, technically. But I don't currently have any plans to sell them as the amount I'd get would be so little it wouldn't be worth the effort to list them, and holding on to them for an indefinite amount of time doesn't hurt me in any way. So... yeah.
