Two games that were bundled and a lot of people have (I checked and you don't, but I guess you can get them easily): Valdis Story: Abyssal City and Volgarr the Viking. I recommend you Valdis. Volgarr is too damn hard.

Dark Souls is one of my favourite games but I think there are games way harder out there.

Imo Valdis is not that hard, after you know what you do, where you get your stuff and what builds works well.
But it still is an awesome game <3

Exactly how I feel about Dark Souls; it can be quite "easy" if you know most of the secrets, but you shouldn't in your first playthrough (unless you use a guide). I got lost a few times and spent more than 15 minutes fighting against some bosses to die after receiving just 2-3 hits. I played it on high difficulty since the beginning, though.

Anyway, I mentioned Valdis because it's an amazing game and it makes you feel like a god once you master the fighting mechanics, and that's what the op was looking for ^^

Volgarr is a classic arcade game - seems bloody hard, but really fair, as it's learnable :) I should return to it, I had problems with the undead boss...

Crusader Kings II--how do you even play that game?

Start the game as a homosexual character (yes I'm serious, being homosexual means that you'll have fewer children->less infighting, which makes it easier for beginners).

lol thanks for the tip. I ended up liking Civ 5 and Total War Attila much better; I know they're vastly different games, but the politics system in TW is much more understandable and enjoyable. Perhaps I'll give CK2 another shot one day though..

I'd say give Volgarr the viking a try =)

Certainly this. Also dark world from super meat boy was not easy at all. Some levels almost impossible, and I'm not even mentioning some of the impossible achievements. Another game that comes to mind is the roguelike Adom which recently got a revamp graphical version. Roguelike genre probably fits best, in what you ask.

I found Runers very difficult even on the easiest setting, it's basically The Binding of Isaac with some interesting twists that make it more bearable and less prone to ragequits because as opposed to The Binding of Isaac it has the "let's try again with a different race/class/spell combo" - that being said I suck at that genre. Royally.

Holy shit, that time when I read that without some kind of magic you can't kill the final boss. You just can't. I stopped playing, the hit was too much :(

I have just recently started playing Hitman: Contracts and yeah, it's a hard game at its normal difficulty.

I always found Hitman 2 the hardest game in the series. Have you tried it?

Ys Origin (In many ways, I've lost myself, and in others, it was too hard to pass from my lvl)
Borderlands (The first one was really hard for me)
Serious Sam Series
Ridge Race Unbound (Until now, still trying to learn how to drive)
and every single bullet hell game that exists. I enjoy Hardest games, and promise that one day, will try Dark Souls.
(Sorry for bad english as well)

Borderlands (The first one was really hard for me)

Are you saying first Borderlands is harder than second? For me the first one was pretty easy, second one is a bit hard at certain points because it was made more for the co-op so singleplayer isn't well balanced.

For some reason, it was. I have played for some time, and then, I have forget to play for months. When I've come back to, it was so hard. But I know, how hard is the second. Just, idk. Have finished so easily compared to the first one in that time.

Personally, I didn't find Serious Sam or Borderlands hard at all (except for Moxxis underdome).

Mafia 1. Even speedrunners tend to die on some missions, as in many shoot-outs the player not only is outgunned (you take as much damage as the enemies), but often has to babysit 1-2 companions.

The unpatched version of the XCOM remake (Enemy Unknown). Aliens had infinite sight range and could snipe the entire team in turn 1 with you having zero way to prevent it. RNG bullshit at its best.

Some random motor racing game made by Sega in the late 90s that I forgot the name of. The rubberbanding was so over the top that the main three opponents could do hairpin turns at full speed to catch up and overshoot you. Also, touching anything made you stop. It was the msot frustrating racing game I ever played.

Mafia 1.

The main issue, at least to me, was the darn race that you need to participate in about halfway through the game. Even though they patched it to make it easier, it was darn hard. I know several people who just gave up on the game as they could not beat the race.

It is a difficult mission, but I'd take it over the last two segments of You Lucky Bastard or even the farm part of the first booze shipment mission any day. Heck, I had more retries on trying to shoot down the ascending plane. Even to this day, I still don't get what is the key to do that properly.
The race though… I tend to get it in a few tries. After the patch, the car mechanics just don't feel right compared to the other vehicles, so I still prefer to use the classic difficulty when it prompts me.

I played the game about 6-7 years ago, but I don't remember having problems with any other level than the race. Probably died a few times in the later levels, but if I had died a lot I would have remembered it.

Hydorah is hard as hell but equally rewarding. Really reminds me of a cool arcade game with great pixel art, kick-ass music and some nonlinearity.

I'd say Bayonetta if you want to get silver/gold medals on your first playthrough: you'll lack experience (even if you played similar games), power-ups, weapons and the knowledge on most of the deadliest enemies.
If you just wnat to see the credits then you just have to account in for a tons of death and stone medals.

Recently I also found that The Evil Within on its normal difficulty (called Survival) can be quite hard, giving you few resources and having most enemies hitting you for quite high damage. Coming from the recent Resident Evil games will be like playing on hard (because RE got quite easy).

Banner Saga is also quite hard, and its mechanics are a bit different from other similars games so chance are quite high that you'll gets you ass kicked a lot already from the start thanks to that "combo" (new mechanics + quite difficult).
