These are my picks (though this is somewhat of an abridged list):

  • Planescape: Torment (PC)
  • Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game (PC)
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC)
  • Diablo (PC)
  • Baldur's Gate (PC)
  • Deus Ex (PC)
  • Anachronox (PC)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC)
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PlayStation 2)
  • The World Ends With You (Nintendo DS)

I have Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 but I haven't played it yet so I can't comment.

Also, here are my (again, abridged) picks for worst role-playing games (which are also examples of how multi-platformism kills PC gaming series):

  • "Fallout 3" (in citation marks because Van Buren is the real Fallout 3)
  • Deus Ex: Invisible War
  • The Elder Scrols IV: Oblivion

I would also add Thief: Deadly Shadows to the list but it isn't a role-playing game. It is, however, another example (like the others listed) of how multi-platformism (whether by a different company or the one that created the original) always results in the destruction of established and beloved PC game series.

ARPG = Titan Quest & Titan Quest: Immortal Throne (Kicks Diablo 3 back to the stone age and TQ is six years older.).
