i've narrowed down my choice to the 280x, but i'm hesitant due to the the whole artifacting fiasco.

i'd like to hear some personal opinions from owners of either the 280x or 7970. possibly some suggestions for alternatives?

for those who aren't aware, some of the memory on the board aren't covered with by the stock heatsink (not to mention they're usually over-volted) in what seems to be the oddest design choice i've ever seen in a graphics card. i don't have plans for a water block or adding third-party heatsinks on the memory.

this seems to be common w/ all types of manufacturers. every review i've read of pretty much every 280x on newegg is littered w/ "artifacts, artifacts, rma, artifact..."

i have been searching for one that DOES cover all the memory, but i haven't been able to track one down (yet).

270x is probably better than any 7000's HD series if you wanna go with something cheaper than a 280x . You can't go wrong with MSI and ASUS . 270x MSI Gaming editio both 2GB and 4GB are pretty good !

i have been considering the 270x. i know it's older tech, but it seems to be the safer (and cheaper) bet. i'm still rockin' an ASUS 5850. :D

i wouldn't mind a 7950 at all. they're just hard to find where i'm living atm (korea). all 7000 series are damn expensive here for some odd, non-crypto-related reason.

how do you like it?

Well I like Asus, MSI, Sapphire, and Gigabyte. If you want lifetime warranty you should get XFX.
But the best choice is to get the GTX 770 if your mobo is compatible with it.
