I don't understand what ppl like you want archive with threads like this..pity..attention whoring..etc?!.. blame yourself for that, don't be pissed that some ppl. help support . At least you got unsuspended fast...
TL;TR: He broke rules and now he is pissed that some ppl play internet-sg-police.

You're probably blacklisted by OP now for elitism :D
Edit: Just to clarify as it seems necessary here:
It's a joke ;)

np, i know and personally my time is too precious to search for violaters. ;)

I sent you a friend request (it isn't for malicious reasons)
Edit: I have Shan Gui if you want it.
Comment has been collapsed.
What? Why?
Edit: As much as I would like Shan Gui just make a regular GA of it. I don't see why I deserve a freebie.
Comment has been collapsed.
Why don't you deserve a game. Even if we disagree it doesn't mean I can't be nice. I usually gift directly rather than making a giveaway.
Comment has been collapsed.
Did you even read the post? It was a mistake on the gift creators side that we both missed. So I'm in the wrong because I go a suspension?
Comment has been collapsed.
i think you should edit the main post to include what game it was and it was resolved , not everyone is gonna read thru all the comments

Well, to be fair, SGtools means that people don't have to take time to check; the system will do it for them. But yes, that's odd. I don't submit reports unless it's been in the last month. Still, sucks that it happened this way; I never thought about a giveaway creator misidentifying the game getting someone banned; that kinda sucks.
Comment has been collapsed.
The game package names were almost identical. It is an easy mistake to make. The reason for the ban was seen as legit because it appeared as if I didn't activate the game I won.

I think I understand what you're talking about, I've been in that fragile state when even the smallest things can finally push you towards something that can't be undone. I hope you feel better now. At the same time, you are being too harsh to that weird person that has reported you (or to a support member, it doesn't really matter): you are accusing someone of pushing you closer to suicide for blant following the rules, while they couldn't have known that your misdeed was an honest mistake. It's a bit too much.
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe, but it shows the whole automated process that SG users follow. It is just so impersonal to generalize and throw everyone under one blanket. The basic thing is that we as humans mostly don't care that there are others that those action affect.

Some comments made by users can be seen as callous. I know it is hard to distinguish between the avatar and the person. Add to that a multitude of users on SG and trying to remain courteous can fly out the window. So I don't blame them taking the "it is the rules, toughen up" approach.

You've got to admit though that with all the rule-breaking that's going on, a personal message would be a little too much to ask for. Support members simply can't message everyone first and ask why they didn't activate a certain game. That would take forever.
Sure, it was a pretty bad situation for you, but I like to think that no one intended to hurt you specifically, you were just an unfortunate casualty to this system.

I have a question. For you SG is super important.
You were aware of the mistake and was feeling good because sgtools didn't detect it. Or perhaps had it as possible false positive.
Joining all these pieces why you never contacted support explaining it?
I'm sure at least CG can change the giveaway to the correct one.

I wasn't aware of the mistake that was made. The creator used DMC:Complete for the giveaway instead of DMC Devil May Cry Complete. We both missed this. I would have done something if SG tools showed this.

I read the names on OP. I understood you had checked and based on that decided to not do anything.
I had contacted a couple times winners of my giveaways without activating all their previous wons. Their reaction made me ensure I wouldn't do it again. And I'm sorry but I strongly suggest no one do that.

I did not realize it was the wrong game. It shows the image of DMC: Devil May Cry in the giveaway.

I salute the drama class members!
Sure, some people likes the rules too much and patrolling SG for no reason (or life). On the other hand claiming that you nearly killed yourself because of her/him is a little too much at best and a serious sociopath abuser behaviout at worst.
One of the first thing i learned here to not check the wrong gift recieved or i might get in trouble later. You should i guess contact the creator and the mods (and wait) in this case. And specifically you also should contact some professionals about your depression in case your family havent asked you already.

I really was close to ending it all. I have been suffering from depression for over 16 years. I have been on meds and in therapy for almost 16 years. Suffering from depression isn't a joke. If you felt the way I did, I wonder how you would have reacted. That last little thing that pushes everything over. So you can think what you will.
On the giveaway front both me and the creator missed the mistake. The giveaway was mistakenly made for DMC: Complete instead of DMC Devil May Cry Complete. SG tools missed this. The thumbnails for both the giveaway on SG and for DMC Devil May Cry on Steam look exactly the same.

Didn't realize they do a great job like that, that's nice to know :)

I really get your pain of teetering and having that one thing topple your balance and have you go flying... I've been through it and I know it sucks. I've spent days with my heart hammering in my chest in dread and anxiety over something someone casually said to me. However, you cannot put that blame on to someone else. I won't argue about whether the reporter should have done this or that. Maybe they could have handled it better, okay. But what they did was so far removed from the result that they could not have imagined it would ever have that kind of effect. We cannot all live our lives contemplating all possible outcomes of our actions; it's just not possible.
And I know it's hard but your energy would be better spent trying to learn ways to deal with things like this. Much easier said than done, I know. But living on the edge like that is a miserable thing. Forgive, forget, move on.

Still had an effect. People are to automated to think about what they do. What might transpire. Adding to this is some of the posts that just seem to think I care about the fact I was suspended. I am more worried about the that detachment of caring about others. Sticking to the rules because it is "the easiest route". This world has already shown me how dark and twisted it can be (there is some good though). I really thought SG users might try to be better than that. Some threads before this incident has made me wonder about parts of the forum community and the site as a whole. I am deeply affected by the crap that happens in on this planet. I like gifting, it gives me a small purpose, but the obsession with lvl, CV and rules is getting too much for me.

Probably somebody on this site that has a personal vendetta against you.

This post is not meant to be funny or sarcastic, although it might contain elements that are.
THIS WAS NOT THE GIVE AWAY CREATORS VAULT. THE POST IS TO SHOW THE DETACHMENT THAT A LOT OF USERS HAVE WITH HOW THEY CONSIGN GUILT ON STEAM. I REALLY VALUE HELPING OTHERS OUT.
The post can be fairly aggressive. This is more me venting after having fumed over this for nearly 2 weeks
This is about a misunderstanding that lead to my suspension for a short while
Being depressed isn't a joke. A small thing can really drive an individual to do something drastic like commit suicide
About 2 weeks ago I logged into Steamgifts like I usually do a couple of times a day. This "ritual" makes up a tiny point of light in my otherwise dreary existence. I get a pop-up and wait in suspense for a second, in the hope of seeing the space cat (that adorable tripping feline we all love) . To my horror it isn't that lovable feline but a message indicating that I had received a suspension. I was mortified. Why would I be suspended? I had activated all my games and haven't broken any SG rules as far as I knew. I checked and it showed that I hadn't activated a game.
I shall summarize the situation to make it short. I won a game last year that the creator mistakenly picked a different, similar title for. I don't blame the person. It was a mistake that any one could make. I got unsuspended within a couple of hours.
I was going through a rough patch at the time. This event was the drop in the bucket to tip it over. I was so close to ending what can be seen as a pitiful existence I live (thank you mysterious stranger for almost giving me the courage to go through with what I have been contemplating to do on almost a daily basis for many years). Luckily (although a part of me thinks otherwise) I was helped by family members to refrain from doing so.
The whole thing got me thinking. Someone had to have gone through a lot of trouble to see that I "hadn't activated" the game. It doesn't show up on SG tools as not activated. So this individual had to have taken the time to manually check every game I won.
For that I salute Captain Anonymous and the SG Defenders. You really keep SG members safe from those vile re-gifters and re-sellers.
And finally: Might your blacklists be full and your suspension requests plenty.
If I'm to be blacklisted by some members for this post I take that risk. Although that would just prove some personal opinions I have had for a while now.
Edit: I'm not disputing that rules should exist, but the callous detached nature of those who use them as absolutes.
Edit 2: The suspension was lifted after a couple of hours. The giveaway was for DMC: Complete instead of DMC Devil May Cry Complete that the gifter intended. SG tools did not pick this up. So to conclude it was sorted out and I was cleared.
EDIT 3: PLEASE DO NOT BLACKLIST ANYONE RESPONDING TO THIS THREAD. EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO HAVE THEIR OWN OPINION
I'm closing this thread. One thing I would like to add is that if others don't care about helping or going the extra mile it doesn't mean you don't have to. So sharing is caring and helping someone on Steam gifts see their mistake might just be worthwhile. Don't hide behind rules and excuses.
