I'm sort of new to this. I've never bought anything outside the steam store so I don't know if other websites offering games for steam offer a legitimate steam copy or what? Like if I were to purchase a humble bundle, could I still get steam achievements and access the workshop for those games? Is greenmangaming even worth it? How would I even buy stuff from those sites? Could someone refer me to an faq or something?

I think there is another updated list in the Discussions, but this is what I found from a quick search.

what adam said. and yes, gmg is legit. you might also want to check out gamersgate and nuuvem. stay the hell away from g2a, kinguin etc. or don't. i don't care as long as you don't post ref links here.

yes, you can get steam achivos and whatnot as long as you buy a steam key or gift and redeem it on your steam client. remember to check the drm and see it is steam or steamworks. also some keys might be region-locked, so be careful.

you can also buy drm-free games from gog. no, you won't get a steam key from there.

how would you buy? it usually consists of these few steps: pick something. add to cart. checkout. pay. and done.

I love the bundle sites. Humble bundle, Indie Gala, Indie Royale, Groupees, and Bundle Stars are my favorites, and I've never had a problem with any of these five.

Absolutely. I have many games from the Humble Store. They all work like a normal Steam game does.

Epicbundle.com shows them all. And they all work. I know the feeling of not knowing what to trust as I just started a few months ago myself. I was reading disturbing things about a few sites and did not know what to do. Now I have found epicbundle.com and it is great. Very up to date and it gathers all the information from all the different sites. GREAT saves a lot of time as collecting games is very addictive. Enjoy your new addiction :)

Been buying a lot at Humblebundle, Indiegala and GMG.

You can get GMG credit by reviewing games, which is pretty cool.

As someone who has spent a small fortune on games, I recommend Bundle Stars and Humble the most. Green man is good as well, but I don't like a few of their policies. That doesn't stop me from giving them my business. I just don't do it often. I have purchased from every site mentioned on this thread, and have never been wronged.

Humble Bundle and Bundle Stars I've purchased from with no issues (many time from humble bundle, only twice from bundle stars), and gog is legit from what I've heard although I've not bought anything from them yet.
