There's no rule against using a bot to enter giveaways and comment thanks. None of us like it too much, but it seems like it would be difficult to catch people who 100% without a doubt do this.

Exactly. Hard to tell the difference between a lazy person and a bot :P

Same here, I can't count how much thousands of times I have written Thanks / Thank you / Many thanks or variants related to the name or number on the title of the game on mobile devices and PC. I Rarely copypaste it because I'm always doing a lot of things and having other things on the clipboard, so if I paste will probably put some crap that takes more time to be erased. As most giveaways don't have description, I rage enter+comment on the giveaways. And for me it's cool to see how much people commented on a giveaway, I think it's mainly appreciated by the creator.

Same here, my ideology is that if someone is giving me a chance to win a free game saying thanks is least I can do and it does not consume a lot of time. I only post something else than generic "Thanks :)" if there is a kind of discussion in the description

Plus to the plus. I just like to show some appreciation, even if it sometimes looks generic and could be considered lazy. I don't get the obsession with hating on people who give simple thanks. Some people really overreact to having a red envelope on the top of the page.
Those who do bot (which sucks) would be hard to definitively prove, even with the glaring evidence the OP mentions.
Bleh, complaints...

I usually type the same thing too unless the creator asks for something more or I feel the need to leave an additional comment other than a thanks. But I say thanks in every giveaway I enter, even if I already thanked them in another giveaway. It feels wrong not to show appreciation every single time :)

Except "thanks" posts are basically just completely pointless spam noise. Gets in the way of real actual comments.
You don't need to thank people for giving stuff away... The site already rewards them for it. Also your entry to their giveaway should indicate adequately that you appreciate the opportunity.
Thank them if you actually win, sure!

I get what you're saying and respect your opinion and stuff. If that's how you feel about it, that's great but I'm going to continue to say thank you when entering giveaways.

public giveaways are mostly useless except for the big developer giveaways, then knowing about them from the chat leads me here, I own most of the public giveaways since I Buy Bundles I think it's kind of pathetic people would take the time to set up a bot for such a thing, but it takes all kinds.
We have lots of lotto tickets in this state with better than 1000:1 odds, public giveaways are a waste of my life for the most part, do group giveaways, or hangout in the chat and drop private giveaways, play trivia for a 10% chance of winning a giveaway(always 10 entrants) etc. Look at my wins, I've entered almost no public giveaways, and most of my wins were available just because I'm a regular in the chat channel.

I understand the frustration for sure. But a polite bot saying thanks is still better than a real person not saying anything.

Only way to stop scripts and bots like that would be with a captcha.

Not Google owned and server hosted "Recaptcha", any captcha.

I don't get the whole deal with thanking that's been going on around here lately...
Some people use scripts to see if someone entered without saying thanks and then blacklist, some people don't even care about the thanking and some have their own idea of when it's appropriate to say thank you.
If people are blacklisting others for not saying thank you the moment they enter a giveaway of course there will be those who use bots to avoid getting blacklisted.
Why make such a fuss about it? There's no way everyone will ever be happy.
I personally, as I have stated previously on some topic, say thank you when I see that the number of thank you's is far less than the number of people who've entered. It is nice to see that your giveaway is appreciated but, in my opinion, if there are over 200 thank you's I won't spam with even more. Maybe someone has a legit question that he/she wants to ask and it would just get lost amongst all the thank you's.
What I believe is a must, again-only in my humble opinion, is thanking the creator when receiving the gift.
Also, what would an appropriate thank you be?
I usually just write "Thank you :)" or some other variation of the smiley-face when I don't know the creator and if he/she has not expressed any other desire in the description.

Judging that all these ppl are bnots based on that is not a bright idea. A lot of ppl will always post sth, even generic thanks, in each Ga they enter. So if I see 10 GAs for a DLC I want I will enter all 10 of them at the same time and post same "thanks :>" "ty" or similar comment in each of them. These comments are in no way any proof that they've been left by a bot,

in the public Gas i also mostly write a generic thank you or thank you very much.
in private GAs, on the other hand, i try to write something different, because i feel like they are more personal. thats just my opinion, in general, i'm happy if someone thanks me when i do a GA, but it isn´t necessary.

It has remained about the same actually. We predicted all the whining in the "SGv2 Community to do list" in the voice of Steve Blum!

Guys, we are in a trouble. If we don't comment thanks, we will be blacklisted. If we comment thanks / thank you / thanks for the chance / many thanks and at least 4-5 of us use the same phrase, we are bots and we'll be blacklisted. There is no escape :(

While I understand the frustration toward botting, I can't help but feel that calling the Mods "facist" is ill-mannered and unnecessary.

Can't speak for other people you've seen, but I comment the same generic "Thanks! :D" or "Thank you ~" on every single giveaway I enter, unless there's some description in the giveaway where the poster asks a question for fun (I've seen some where they ask for your favourite band, for example) or explicit instructions not to thank them.
So I find it a bit amusing that you say if the person comments "thanks" on every single giveaway, it must obviously be a script/bot. There's no possible way that someone would actually go through that two second trouble to leave a comment on each one, right? SteamGifts wouldn't be able to do any drastic measures (like banning) since it's impossible to differentiate if it's a script or someone genuinely commenting on every giveaway, like me.
The only solution they'd have is to either add a Captcha to join every giveaway (which would annoy the vast majority of people, probably) or remove the comment section in the giveaway.

I'm not going to give names in order to not give the fascist mods a excuse for baning me, but there is a row of several giveaways of the same DLC all created by the same guy and in each one of those giveaways the first 5 or so comments are a bunch of generic "thanks" by the same accounts all in the same order each time. We all know that if they were actual persons they wouldn't bother thanking the creator in each and every single of the giveaways, specially not with the same generic "thanks". Everyone knows that there are botters on steamgifts, we all have seem shameless videos on youtube of people botting this site. These profiles that comment a "thanks" on every single giveaway they enter no matter what is being given away are obviously bots or scripts that were set up to automatically enter a certain range of giveaways and leave those generic "thank you for the chance" comments in each one. I don't understand why steamgift doesn't do anything about these users.
