Hmm tried Sam & Max 101: Culture Shock right now and it works fine. No lags or something.

Actually, using a mod, you can make the game go much higher. These are old games, so some modern systems have trouble running them. My only suggestions are either verify the local files to ensure they work or use a virtual machine program to emulate an older system.

Dont know if its worth for this game, but you also could try a clean instal of windows. Normally it should work even without a app or a guide.

You need to set your monitor to a low resolution. Then start the game and change the viseo settings. Quit, reset your regular screen resolution, and start the game again by the way, each chapter is a different game, I recommend doing all 6/12 chapters in one go

I'm bumping this thread because of a short discussion with its author: link

One of the things which many people don't notice is the importance of Microsoft Visual C++ libraries. For some versions of it (especially the older ones) updates don't always work or they don't even have an auto update feature at all!

For some games it causes them to not start properly (had that issue with Lethal League once) and in some other cases the game runs fine, but the achievements don't register on Steam (happened to me in Nihilumbra).

So if you haven't tried doing that thing yet, you should follow these steps:

  1. Install the game.
  2. Uninstall ALL versions of Microsoft Visual C++ libraries present on your PC.
  3. Install ALL versions of Microsoft Visual C++ libraries (2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015). Make sure to install both x86 and x64 versions!!! You can google all of the 12 installers yourself or use this site: link
  4. Check if the game works.
