So, it looks like GearGrinder was just Greenlit, which is an odd thing to happen considering the game is already on Steam!

Good times.

Probably, I see some of the most terrible crap get through. There are hundreds of awesome games out but then this happens.

different names, different devs

It's the exact same game. The one on the store is even called "Sledgehammer/GearGrinder" as if they didn't know which name to go with so they did a "and/or".

or maybe a copied game? or double greenligh to have more probability to greenlit it?

No. The Sledgehammer/Gear Grinder name was as the result of some legal thing, and there's no such thing as double Greenlight. The Greenlight entry and Steam game are by two different publishers with rights to the game.

Look at developers. At screeen

you've got buka enterteinment and target games

but in
greenlight it is head up games.

Maybe it's some kind of legal problem

Lmao !!! Ok soo that dev added "Sledgehammer / Gear Grinder" with the help of a publisher straight to the steam store.

And while they were doing that, they still had "GearGrinder" on the GL list.

I'm sorry steam ... that's not a loophole, that's a bloody black hole.

They just changed the name of the game a little, and got to get on the steam front page 2 times, step aside Hammerpoint(think thats the name of the troll devs) There's a new kid on the block !

Sledgehammer / Gear Grinder released in 2008

GearGrinder posted on Greenlight in 2012

Are you sure they are the same game?

Do your eyes work? Look at the screenshots.

Compare the Greenlight video to this which is reviewing the one already on Steam.

Before watching the video you posted, I do thing they are just games from the same genre, demolition derby with only trucks

But yeah that video leaves no doubt.

Doing some research, here is what I have found! The game originally came out in 2008, although 'Sledgehammer / Gear Grinder' was only added to Steam a month ago. It appears like it was originally from Targem Games and Buka Entertainment who happens to be owned by everyone's favourite 1C Company!

On the Targem Games Wikipedia it states it was originally released in Russia and then a year later, it had a worldwide release. The odd thing is the citation from the worldwide release links to Headup Games' website.

My theory is that Targem and Buka released it in Russia, Headup Games helped with the worldwide release. Headup Games then put the game on Greenlight, Targem and Buka noticed this and used their connections to 1C in order to get the game on Steam before Headup did.

I have no real proof, but that's the only thing that's making any sense to me.

Buy them both and hope one gets removed so you can resell it for tons of profit!

That's looks to be an oversight as the game was Greenlit on October 29. The situation with GearGrinder is quite different as it involves multiple companies.

I already gave my theory of what happened and it seems quite likely.

So they greenlight "devs" are just thiefs or they're the same ppl? they already greenlit some games before...http://steamcommunity.com/id/didl666/myworkshopfiles/?section=greenlight I don't understand how you can release a game on greenlight without having permission from the devs...

Sometimes it's happened the other way around. There has been at least one case where a game was released on the Steam store illegally, and the version on Greenlight was the legitimate one. Paper Monsters comes to mind.

There is that game Motor Rock that is removed from Steam but the developer is ?allowed? to sell Steam keys that still activate on Steam from his website.

So I would say it's a really wide gray zone.

Maybe they're leftovers from the last batch of keys.
If the dev runs out of keys, Valve won't provide any new ones, I guess.

There was no theft, all companies involved are associated with the game.

I believe it's the result of different publishers having rights in different regions. As Steam is digital, there is no real "region" to define who is entitled to sell the game.

I don't see why such a big deal out of it.

  1. it doesn't affect me in any way
  2. there has to be a reason, just wait and they will explain, or they see the mistake and resolve it
  3. don't tell me you all do your job at work 100% perfectly, without making mistakes

Again, why should i/we care????? whats the damn big deal? it happened, move along.

It's not really important nor does it really affect anyone, but it does bring up a new flaw with Greenlight. At first they weren't accepting enough games, now they're blindly accepting games that are already on Steam.

that yes, but reading all posts here, some make too big deal out of it, like its the end of the world. Now that it happened and steam knows/will know soon, they will be more careful from now on, that still doesn't explain though why almost everyone is going crazy like the sky fall off on their heads. I suppose i need to get used that in this world there are lots of people that "want to make gold out of dust". :))

Haha no one is making a big deal about anything! This is a forum about Steam and games, so if a funny thing happens with Steam and/or games you may end up seeing a post about it. It's not like this is a wildly off-topic thread for this site.

If you don't think it warrants discussion or you're not interested, then it should be you who just ignores it and "moves along" :)
